Lorin Maazel conducts Wagner: The Ring Without Words

Lorin Maazel conducts the Berliner Philharmoniker. Strongly influenced by the comments of Richard Wagner's grandson, Wieland, about the importance of the orchestra in the Ring, Lorin Maazel eventually agreed to produce a symphonic synthesis of the tetralogy, which he called The Ring Without Words. It is a seventy-five-minute orchestral distillation that is designed with the express purpose of bringing the magic of these monumental music dramas to a new audience of musically sensitive listeners through the sumptuous playing that he draws from the Berlin Philharmonic. Recorded live at Philharmonie Berlin, 2000 The DVD and Blu-ray Disc will be released in January 2011. Repertoire: Richard Wagner: The Ring Without Words, A Symphonic Synthesis by Lorin Maazel Bonus: Interview with Lorin Maazel Reviewa: "Spectacular in its vividness [...] Wotan makes a passionately romantic farewell to his daughter, with the Berlin strings creating a movingly powerful climax [...] Maazel's rather aggressive pressing on in Siegfried's Rhine Journey [...] gives great impact to Hagen's call and Siegfried's Funeral Music [...] Audiophiles who like blazingly spectacular sound and plenty of adrenalin flowing in the music-making, should find this worth trying. Certainly the heavy brass sounds are very tangible." Gramophone

Wiener Hofburgkapelle - Puer natus est(Lorin Wey treble)

1 - Kyrie eleison(Pentecôte), grégorian. Terry Wey as tenor 2 - Introitus puer natus est, Heinrich Isaac. Lorin Wey, soloist. Terry Wey, tenor Heinrich Isaac (also known as Ysaac, Ysaak, Henricus, Arrigo d'Ugo, and Arrigo il Tedesco Tedesco meaning "Flemish" or "German" in Italian) ( 1450- 1517) was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance, of south Netherlandish origin. He is regarded as one of the most significant contemporaries of Josquin des Prez, and had an especially large influence on the subsequent development of music in Germany. Isaac moved to Vienna in 1496. By November of that year, Isaac was in the employ of Emperor Maximilian I. Isaac was the court composer for Maximilian at his new chapel in Vienna April 3, 1497 He travelled widely in Germany, to Augsburg, Wels, Innsbruck, and Nuremberg, and is credited with having a big influence on German composers of the time. Isaac was a singer at Ss. Annunziata until 1493. In 1502, he returned to Italy, going to Florence and then Ferrara at the Este court of Ferrara, where he competed with Josquin for employment: a famous letter from the agent of the Este family compared the two composers, saying that "Isaac is of a better nature than Josquin, and while it is true that Josquin is a better composer, he only composes when he wants to, and not when asked; Isaac will compose when you want him to." In 1507 he was in Konstanz for the crowning of Maximilian as the Holy Roman Emperor and wrote two ceremonial motets for the ...

Johann Strauss : Spleen Polka Mazurka op.197 - Lorin Maazel / Wiener Philharmoniker

he German-language Brockhaus lexicon defines 'spleen' as "a form of melancholy with hypochondriacal features, generally designated as the English national complaint"! In its 1854 edition the reference work further expounds: "Of a person who applies his physical, mental and financial powers in a way which runs counter to that which would normally be recognised as useful or pleasant, but at the same time shows no trace of mental illness other than unusual equanimity towards life, it is said he has spleen". The Spleen Polka-Mazur was one of a batch of new works which Johann Strauss composed for his 1857 concert season at the Vauxhall Pavilion in Pavlovsk, near St Petersburg. In order to save travel costs, the Viennese Waltz King took with him just four members from the Strauss Orchestra, relying for the remainder of his orchestral players on musicians from Berlin, whom he had selected personally. Since FA Zimmermann, the viola-player who kept detailed accounts of the programmes performed at Pavlovsk during other years, did not accompany Strauss to Russia in 1857, a date of first performance for the polka-mazurka cannot be precisely determined. The work appears to have been written for one of the composer's friends in St Petersburg. Strauss departed Pavlovsk at the close of his second 'Russian summer', setting foot on native Viennese soil on the night of 22 October 1857. More than two weeks earlier, on 7 October, the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung had informed its readers ...

Lorin and Terry Wey: Duetto buffo di due gatti aka Duet of the Cats

Lorin Wey was born on April 3, 1990 in Berne, Switzerland, to an American-Swiss musician couple, Peggy Wey-Ervin and Markus Wey. In 1994, he moved to Vienna, where his older brother, Terry, joined the Vienna Choir Boys. Lorin entered the kindergarten of the Vienna Choir Boys, and continued on to their primary school. As a member of the choir, he sang various masses in the Imperial Chapel, and in Carmen in the Vienna State Opera. After a tour to Australia and New Zealand, he left the choir and enrolled in the Vienna Musikgymnasium (music high school). In 1999, Lorin played the boy Mozart in a Japanese film, with the conductor Charles Dutoit as Father Mozart. Terry Wey was born in September 1985 in Bern, Switzerland. After seeing his first and still favourite opera, "Il Trovatore" by G. Verdi, at age 4 he knew exactly that he wanted to become an opera-singer. He joined his first choir, The Berner Kinderchor, at age 6 performing in "La Boheme" in the Bernese City Opera house and other various concerts. At age 7, he joined Knabenchor Roggwil under R. Favre. Here he performed in Mozart's "Magic Flute" in Baden for the first time, followed by concert tours through Italy singing Bach's "St. Matthews Passion" with the Orchestre Symphonique Neuchatelois and performances at the "Goetheanum" and the "Tonhalle" in Zurich. After seeing a TV-documentary on the Vienna Choir Boys he auditioned and was accepted to attend Vienna's preparations-choir. From 1995 until 1998, he was a member ...
