If you've never seen this movie, check out the trailer this video was based on: www.youtube.com A MLP parody trailer of the movie Lucky Number Slevin. This was by far the most effort I've put into any trailer which is somewhat sad considering it's for a movie that flew under a lot of people's radars. The amount of lip sync was reason enough to drive any normal man insane. (especially the part with Gummy) Anyways, Lucky Number Slevin is a great crime thriller, with some of best dialogue in a movie I've seen. Definitely check it out if you haven't already. I hate the title I had to use for this, but I couldn't find a decent play on words from the title (and neither could anyone I asked) other than adding a P to Slevin because Spike is the main character. All Points Bulletin - Lucky Number
Recorded in 1998, one year after Ian Levine first discovered Steve Brookstein after seeing him come second on an ITV talent contest, hosted by Jonathan Ross, this is a version of a song that Ian had already recorded for Motorcity Records with Ronnie McNeir, whose original version can be seen among the videos on the Ian Levine MySpace page. Way back in 1998, after trying a few solo records, plus a duet with Steve's then girlfriend Kate Jackson, who also recorded under the name Venicia Wilson, Ian decided to form a new Northern Soul band around Steve. This band was called All Points Bulletin, and Kate Jackson was also in the band. Ian was making a documentary about Northern Soul, called "The Strange World Of Northern Soul", and the idea was to create a new young fresh Northern Soul band to show that the scene didn't have to be just about thirty year old records. So All Points Bulletin made three songs, "I'm On My Way", "Lucky Number", and "You've Been Away", and filmed two of these songs in a rehearsal room in North Acton, with, curiously enough, Ian Levine's cousin, Daniel Glatman, in the band, before Daniel went on to create Blue. Ian's partner in the documentary, Neil Rushton, got cold feet about All Points Bulletin, so in 1999, when the film reached its final edit, the footage was left on the cutting room floor at first. Ronnie McNeir - Lucky Number
Ronnie McNeir made a record as a teenager called "Sitting In My Class", which became a huge Northern Soul favourite. He became close friends with Kim Weston and moved to Los Angeles. Ronnie then returned to his home town of Detroit, and built up his recording career. After recording for many more labels, he signed to Prodigal, which became a part of Motown, and then recorded for Motown itself. He was a major part of our Motorcity project, writing for many other artists, along with his lifetime friend, "Four Top" Obie Benson, as well as singing for us as an artist. He is now a permanent member of the Four Tops, since only one original member is now left, Duke Fakir. My friend Ralph Tee flew to Las Vegas, where Ronnie now lives, especially to shoot this video. The song was first recorded in 1989, then years later went on to become one of the first of these Motorcity recordings to be wholeheartedly welcomed and adored by the Northern Soul scene, and Radio One actually phoned up and asked for a copy, something unheard of both before and since. I co-wrote the song with Ronnie, and it has all the joyous optimism that I could ever wish for.
