www.notebookreview.com Dell recently announced the XPS M1330 a 13.3" widescreen ultraportable and ultra sexy notebook that uses the Intel Santa Rosa platform. Equipped with an available dedicated Nvidia 8400m graphics, slot loading optical drive, LED backlit display, and integrated web-camera, the M1330 is less than 1" thin at the front and weighs in at 4lbs. The following is a quick first take on the Dell M1330.
www.jrin.net Ordered on 6/29 and Delivered on 7/30 - this is my simple review of the dell m1330 laptop -- cd/keyboard/fan noise, comparison to the m1210, media direct functions, look and feel, etc. This system has the led backlit screen, T7300 2.0ghz, 2gb ddr2667, dvd-rw, nvidia 8400gs, etc. Check out more of my review over at jrin.net. I also heard that you can tap the center of the touchpad twice and it should work just as well. I tried it and it worked. GOOD LUCK! Just a little simple video of what i did to fix my m1530 touchpad problem. A lot of people have the problem where is jumps around like crazy. This is my little way to fix it. May or may not work for you!!!

My beautiful new laptop: slick, portable, sexy, red and...a PC! I've needed a new laptop for sometime now and when my old one died of a hardware failure (may or may not be due to my beating it up), I decided to set the wheels in motion. My final two choices were the Dell and white MacBook (only $100 price difference, the Mac being the more expensive of the two). I chose the M1330, because it's lighter, has more storage, I think it's more aesthetically pleasing and I'm excited about Windows 7. Plus, I'm contributing to help fight AIDS in Africa, which is awesome.

Update: Got a new power adapter, but had no other problems for a couple of years now. Laptop gets used everyday for 8-16 hours. And still got a year of warranty left. (had 4) Update: This happened twice, first time dell replaced mobo and it broke within 2 days.. next time the screen, mobo and the little control panel with multimedia keys (how can that affect anything???) were replaced... Hours of phone calls to dell's "great" support outsourced to india.. Anyway, nobody knew what was wrong with it so they replaced almost everything except hdd and the casing. I'd guess that the fault is down to overheating.. When tech guy comes to fix yours, make sure that he puts some more cooling gel between the heat sink an processor.. It has to be renewed if the heat sink has been taken off. Glad to have 3yr warranty... would have been screwed otherwise /// Coloured stripes appear on bootup. Captured by iphone

The m1330 is an awesome laptop, you'll got a ton of looks if you take it to a public place. I've learned after researching and using other slot-loading drives that the sound is normal for slot-loading drive. Otherwise the laptop is perfect.

Dell's XPSM1330 experiences a periodic flaw where the computer system crashes and the screen goes totally black. Once you turn it back on, the screen continues to stay black and then displays vertical lines on the screen. This video shows what happens after I turn on the computer after the computer crashed. I had a similar problem like this happen to my Inspiron8600. Both were using Nvidia graphics cards. I was told by a Dell XPS tech support person and a Best Buy Geek Squad person that my graphics card must be replaced to fix this issue. Anyone else heard of a problem like this or experience it? I had my Inspiron8600 for about 4 years before it stopped working, however, I only had my XPSM1330 for 7 months before it started to do this.

After a few weeks of waiting I finally got my New M1330. I consider myself to be the first 10% to get it without any major delays. (2007) So it's been a well since I've had this laptop. I've had terrible experiences with this laptop! I use it at college and it has broken down on me when I've needed it the most. OK. Here's the list...three motherboard/ graphic card replacements.( broke once around my finals) one Hard drive crash. 100+ blue screens and net browsing crashes. I'm very disappointed with the DELL'S M1330. I have a MACBOOK PRO now!!
Dell Xps M1330 has a Gpu issue which has not been solved even after 1 year. The Gpu crashes periodically after 6 months time. Its a great performing laptop but with these issues its bringing down its glory. I think its time Dell should do something to save all M1330's out there.
Just a quick comparison of my notebooks.. Although there isnt a massive deifference on start up and shutdown, file transfer, loading programs and windows updates is considerably faster on the St. XPS 13. I went through a few specs on the video, listed more details below.. Any Questions please ask.. Nvidia card failed while I was typing a work report. After a week of hassling Dell I finally got an overnight Fedex box from them. If you are experiencing the "vertical lines of death" kindly point your browser to this website: en.community.dell.com Dell WILL FIX THIS ISSUE for 12 months after your regular warranty expired. Get the word out, Nvidia is getting reamed on this one. It happens to all laptops with the 8400 and 8600 series cards.
Finally managed to get my hands on a beta build of windows 7. This is Public Beta 1, Build 7000, 64 Bit. It was a pretty smooth installation, Didn't need to install any extra drivers, with the exception of the sigmatel HD audio drivers, and dell quickset (optional). So far here is what i can report: What does work: - standby/hibernation - webcam - audio (use the vista 64 drivers) - geforce 8400M gs videocard What doesn't work: - touch sensitive buttons, (except the eject button) I will report back once i've had a chance to use windows 7 a bit more... and once i get a better camera. Sorry for the bad quality.

This is a problem that occurs on all Synaptic Touchpads (not only Dell XPS M1330). It happens when you go in and out of fullscreen 2 times while watching a Flash Video (not limited to Youtube!). You don't even have to go into fullscreen 2 tmes on the same video...you can watch one Youtube clip where you go in and out of fullscreen and then go to another clip (can be on a different site) where you go in and out of fullscreen...your scrolling will be disabled now as well! I've tried to do everything I can to file this bug but no one listens...It most likely is a driver bug.
