Deaths Feared As Pile-Up Closes M5 In Somerset At least 30 people have been hurt, some seriously, in a multi-vehicle collision on the M5 in Somerset with reports of possible fatalities. Some 20 light vehicles and six articulated lorries were involved in the smash, according to fire and rescue services. At least four people who were trapped have been cut free by firefighters. The incident happened just before 8.30pm, near junction 25 on the northbound carriageway of the motorway. Eyewitnesses have reported seeing burning vehicles and casualities and debris strewn across the road. A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "Four vehicles were reported to be on fire, including two lorries." Police, fire and ambulance services are all at the scene and the motorway has been closed in both directions from junctions 23 to 26. Motorists in Bridgwater and the surrounding area are being asked to avoid the road. Police have said the motorway is likely to be closed for 24 hours. Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the collision unit on 101.
