
104.7 Skyfire is an annual fireworks show held over Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra, Australia which began in 1988. The fireworks are synchronised to music played by local radio station 104.7. It is usually held in March. 104.7 Skyfire 21 was held on March 21, 2009. It was held on a pleasant Canberra evening with the fireworks commencing at 20.33pm and lasting for 21 minutes. The firing zone was down the center basin of Lake Burley Griffin up to Anzac Parade and Parliament House down to Regatta Point. Fortunato Foti and a band of pyrotechnicians from Foti International Fireworks provided the show which was at least 30 per cent bigger than the previous years, with over 3000 aerial fireworks, 15 to 20000 shooting comets. One barge shot off a few more fireworks for 5-10 minutes after the show completed. 104.7 Skyfire X on March 8, 1998 had an estimated 120000 visitors. 104.7 Skyfire XI held on March 7, 1999 had an estimated 180000 visitors which was held at the start of the Canberra Festival and which Casino Canberra was a major sponsor. More than 170000 visitors turned out to see 104.7 Skyfire 19 in 2007. 104.7 Skyfire 2011 will be the largest fireworks display in the history of Skyfire with approximately 4100 aerial shells, 25000 shooting comets, and a total of 40000 individual pyrotechnic effects will be incorporated into the display.
