The maglite runs around 30 bucks, and the surefire 85. The size and weight difference however is really no comparison.
Maglite XL200 Flashlight Review with Beamshots
Here I give a brief overview of the Maglite XL200 LED Flashlight and then show some indoor and outdoor beamshots, comparing it to the Fenix LD20 (Q5 version) flashlight. Maglite is universally known as the go to flashlight in most households. They are generally built like a tank and they are also affordable. But for the past few years the flashlight world has been transformed incorporating high powered and efficient LEDs. Maglite first stepped into the LED game with its Mini AA models. But the beam was not very pretty in my opinion, and the operation was sketchy. But fast forward to the XL series. Here we have the newest model in the XL line, which puts out a whopping 172 Lumens. The beam profile is very clean, but does have a halo due to the smooth reflector design. The operation is much different from your typical flashlight. 1 click, 2 clicks, 3 clicks, what the heck? Its actually quite confusing and takes some getting used to. But there is a High mode, Strobe, Low, Signaling, and SOS. The low mode (or Nitelight) Has an interesting motion controlled variable output. It dims to the lowest mode, but when you move the flashlight around it bounces back up to high. I find it very annoying, but you can see for yourself in the review. The light does tailstand, and you can unscrew the head of the flashlight to use it as a candle - which provides a very floody beam. I find the ability to focus on this light from spot to flood useless, but that is a typical Maglite feature. For <b>...</b>

Maglite XL50: Workhorse & EDC LED Flashlight
With high tech LED flashlights getting more and more complicated, the Maglite XL50 keeps it simple but still offers a taste of high tech performance at a fraction of the cost of more advanced lights. For $30 you get a solid and reliable 3 AAA powered, 104 lumen flashlight with High, Low, & Strobe modes. To engage each mode you quickly press the power button 1, 2, or 3 times respectively. I found the power button an absolute delight to use as it is very quiet, very quick, and has a super consistent, almost "muted snap-like" feel that screams high quality. It also has a high quality series of electrical contacts that have proven 100% reliable in the 9+ months I have been using it (no palm smacking needed). The XL50 is a great choice for work (such as a mechanic or maintenance tech) or EDC if you can get past the 1" thickness. It would also be an excellent light to keep in your vehicle - it is small enough to fit in the smallest of glove boxes but it likely wont get lost in the nether region between a seat and center console. Since the reflector gives more of a tight spot pattern than a widespread beam, this light would be good medium distance search light. Given the quick actuation of the switch, the XL50 also makes a pretty good self-defense light. Whether you need to illuminate your path to your car in a dark parking lot or use the strobe to blind an attacker, this light will allow you to do it quickly. Simply put, I don't see how you can go wrong by picking up one of <b>...</b>

4Sevens Preon 2 vs Mini Maglite
In this episode we compare the Preon 2 pen light to the ever so common Mini Maglite. Sure, this isn't really a fair fight. Comparing an traditional incandescent flashlight to a modern LED pen light made out of aircraft aluminum is kind of mean to be honest. But chance are you've owned, or at the very least, used a Mini Maglite before, so this is meant to be more of a baseline for comparison. We'll also take a look at how each one's light output stacks up in real life via my scientific test lab (my backyard at night). If you want a FULL review of the Preon 2 specifically check out the Nutnfancy review. And now on to the stats... The traditional Mini Mag has an incandescent bulb, runs on 2 AA batteries, pushes 15 lumens, and weighs in at 3.75 ounces. By comparison, the Preon 2 uses a modern LED bulb, runs on 2 AAA batteries, pushes a max of 160 lumens, and weighs in at 1.5 ounces. It also has the advantage of some extra light modes: low (2 lumens), medium (22 lumens), high (160 lumens!), SOS, strobe, beacon high, and beacon low (great for marking your zombie base camp at night so you don't get lost). The Mini Mag batteries will give you around 5 hours of run time. The Preon will give you about 6 hours on medium, or 23 hours low / .8 hours on high. The Preon also seems to be submersible in water from what I've seen. I'm not sure if the mini-mag could handle full submersion or not, but mine has certainly gotten rained on without any problems.
