My tribute to some excellent musicians and a great traditional song that captures the tenderness of life's departures. Ryland "Ry" Cooder is an American guitarist, singer and composer. He is known for his slide guitar work, his interest in blues-rock, roots music from his native North America, and, more recently, for his collaborations with traditional musicians from many countries. The Chieftains are a Grammy-winning Irish musical group founded in 1962, best known for being one of the first bands to make Irish traditional music popular around the world.

JMSDF joins Indian, US Navies in Exercise Malabar
The Indian Navy, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) and US Navy expanded their maritime partnerships during exercise MALABAR 2009, held off the coast of Japan April 29 - May 3. MALABAR aims to increase coordination between the navies, thus creating a more effective response to maritime threats by developing common procedures in maritime operations. Historically, MALABAR was a bilateral engagement between the United States and India, who leads the exercise. This year the Indian Navy invited the JMSDF to participate.
