Owen spurns retirement after Manchester United wave goodbye

Michael Owen is set to leave Manchester United after the former England striker revealed he will not be offered a new contract, but says he is not yet ready to retire. The 32-year-old, whose deal expires this summer, has announced via Twitter that the club will not be renewing his terms. "The Manager informed me after our testimonial match on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract," the former England striker said. "I have loved every minute of the 3 years I have spent at such a fantastic club. "I would like to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish them well for the future. I now plan to have a short holiday during which I will contemplate my next move." Owen told Sky Sports News that he would be not be retiring just yet. "I would like to play another couple of years and play more regular," he said. "I'm only 32, looking at the likes of Scholesy and Giggsy, it fills you with confidence that you can play on. I am reasonably young and feel I can still play on. My body still feels good even though I've had a few injuries."

Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United - Official Highlights | FA Cup 3rd Round Proper 08-01-12

Man City v Man Utd FA Cup Manchester United survived a stirring fightback from Manchester City to win a thrilling FA Cup third-round derby at the Etihad Stadium. The drama started before kick-off when United announced Paul Scholes was coming out of retirement to play until the end of the season and was named on the bench. And it did not let up for a pulsating 90 minutes which threatened a United rout as they established a three-goal lead by half-time, but ended with Sir Alex Ferguson's side hanging on as City tried to complete the most unlikely comeback. City were also fuelled by a burning sense of injustice after losing influential defender and captain Vincent Kompany to a contentious early red card from referee Chris Foy after a two-footed challenge on Nani. United were already ahead courtesy of Wayne Rooney's header - and with City suffering a numerical disadvantage the visitors punished their neighbours in a style that, at one point, threatened complete revenge for their 6-1 thrashing at Old Trafford in October. Danny Welbeck added a second before Rooney was on target again from a rebound after his penalty was saved by City's stand-in goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, who was in for the rested Joe Hart. Roberto Mancini's side refused to capitulate in adversity, mounting a response that ultimately failed to rescue the game but did great credit to their resilience and determination. Aleksandar Kolarov's free-kick reduced the deficit and, when Sergio Aguero took advantage of ...

Piazon struck 20 minutes from time to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory for Adi Viveash's men, who will face Blackburn Rovers in The Final. Jack Barmby gave United the lead and levelled it on aggregate just before the break to keep up his record of having scored in every round of The Cup, but Piazon's leveller was enough to tie the game and send Chelsea through after a thoroughly entertaining 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea went into the match looking to protect, or build upon, their first leg advantage granted to them courtesy of goals from Amin Affane and Islam Feruz. But Viveash's side know all about Cup heartache at the hands of Manchester United. Only last year, United overturned a 3-2 first leg advantage to win 4-0 on their way to winning the trophy. Swansea 1-5 Manchester United | FA Youth Cup Official Highlights 02-02-12

Swansea City 1-5 Manchester United The FA Youth Cup Fifth Round Thursday 2 February 2012 Liberty Stadium, Swansea City FC Fifth Round Results | Sixth Round Fixtures Gyliano van Velzen scored twice as Manchester United romped to a 5-1 win over Swansea in The FA Youth Cup Fifth Round on Thursday night. The Dutch U17 international scored either side of half-time and was joined on the scoresheet by Jack Barmby, Sam Byrne and Tyler Blackett. Most of the damage was done in the first half as the reigning champions led 3-0 at the interval at the Liberty Stadium. Barmby provided the crucial breakthrough in the 38th minute when he slotted the ball past an onrushing Oliver Davies from Nicolas Ioannou's pass. And the lead was doubled just two minutes later when Mats Daelhi unselfishly squared the ball to Van Velzen who made no mistake with an easy tap-in. And there was still time for Irish striker Byrne to slide the ball past Davies and into the back of the net in first-half injury time after neat build up play between Barmby and Van Velzen. Van Velzen then grabbed his second four minutes after the break to put the tie beyond doubt. But a defensive mix-up and a loose header by captain Blackett allowed James Loveridge to pull one back for the home side. But Blackett made amends and sealed United's emphatic victory with a beautiful free kick in the dying moments of the game. United advance to the quarter final stage where they have a home tie against the winners of the Charlton and ...

Ferguson want's 'stupid result' - Sunderland v Man United & Man City v QPR | EPL

Sir Alex Ferguson eyes 'stupid' Manchester City result Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says he is hoping "something stupid" happens to Manchester City to gift his team the Premier League title. City host QPR on Sunday needing to match or better United's result against Sunderland to win the Premier League. "We can only do our best and try to win the match and hope something stupid happens with City," said Ferguson. "It's fantastic for the neutral, fantastic for the media, but agony for both clubs." Ferguson also criticised the manner of how current QPR manager Mark Hughes left Manchester City halfway through the 2009-10 season. Hughes played for United under Ferguson, who said: "The way he [Hughes] was sacked was terrible. That was the general opinion by everyone. I think his wife knew before him. "At the time it was a shock but I don't think that will matter to Mark that much. If you analyse Mark Hughes as a player and manager, all his teams seem to mirror him. "He was a warrior as a player and I wish he was playing. If his team can mirror him then you never know. "It will give him some satisfaction to get a result but I think he's more professional than that. His main aim will be to try and keep QPR in the division." Ferguson urged Hughes' QPR to emulate his Aberdeen side, who upset Real Madrid to win the 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup. "Do you know what happened 29 years ago today?," he asked journalists. "I took a wee team, Aberdeen, to beat Real Madrid in a ...

Bryan Robson stunning goal - Manchester United vs Liverpool - FA Cup semi final replay 1985

FATV talks to Manchester United legend Bryan Robson about a "extra special" game in the FA Cup, in which he scored one of the greatest all time FA Cup goals. In 1985, when Robson enjoyed the second of his three FA Cup successes with the Reds, the north-west giants met at the Semi-Final stage and after drawing the first game 2-2 at Goodison Park, it was back to Manchester and Maine Road for the replay. And after going behind to John Wark's opener, Robson got United back level in the second half before Mark Hughes notched the winner to send them into The Final against Everton. "The atmosphere at Maine Road was great, but it was a bad start for us against a Liverpool team who were dominant at the time," recalled Robson. "I always enjoyed playing at Maine Road though, because to me it always seemed to be a big pitch. I don't actually know whether it was. Mario Zovko - Ode to Manchester United

I dedicate this song to my beloved club Manchester United and all fans of its glorious name. One month of work, and I have been enjoying in every second creating it. Text and music becomes from my heart, music producing and arrangement from my soul, vocal from my entire being. Enjoy :) When I step into Theatre of dreams, When I see Red devils dancing When I hear the sound of my friends singing songs, Then I feel that I can sing forever for you. Sometimes you make me cry, Sometimes you make me smile, But don't worry there's something that you have to know, A true friend never betrays. Man United, Man United, I'll stand with you all the time Man United, o United, in my eyes you will always shine! I will follow path that you create, 'Coz I'm proud servant of your reign, And your crown is carved in my heart, And it will be as long as I live. Man United, Man United, I'll stand with you all the time Man United, o United, in my eyes you will always shine Man United, o United, in my eyes you will always shine! © Copyrights to Mario Zovko
