Marche - Italy
The Marche is one of the 20 Regions of Italy. The Italian name Le Marche is the plural of marca, and literally means "the Marches", originally referring to the medieval March of Ancona and nearby marches of Camerino and Fermo. The Marche are located in the Central area of the country, bordering Emilia-Romagna and the republic of San Marino to the north, Tuscany to the north-west, Umbria to the west, Abruzzo and Lazio to the south and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Except for river valleys and the often very narrow coastal strip, the land is hilly. In the nineteenth century, a railway from Bologna to Brindisi linked the Marche along the coastline of the entire territory. Inland, the mountainous nature of the region, even today, allows little travel north and south, except by rough roads over the passes. ( source Wikipedia )

From the movie: Tous les matins du monde Some Info: Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) Italian-born composer (French nationality from 1681). Entered service of Louis XIV 1653, composed instrumental music for the court ballets. From 1664 collaborated with Molière in series of comedy-ballets which were forerunners of French opera, the last and most famous being Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, in which Lully danced role of the Mufti. Having assimilated both Italian and French styles and tastes, from 1673 he turned to opera composition and obtained from the King exclusive rights to arrange operatic performances in Paris. His death was caused by a gangrenous abscess which formed in his foot after he struck it with the long staff he used for beating time on the floor while conducting a Te Deum to celebrate Louis XIV's recovery from illness.

Marche Funebre. Played by Ronald Smith, 1971. 'The titles Marche funebre and Marche triomphale suggest that Alkan may have felt challenged to reproduce on the new, powerfully extended Erard concert grand, some of the sombre atmosphere and massive sonorities of Berlioz's great 'Symphonie funebre at triomphale' for massed bands which had recently been produced in Paris. The Marche funebre, stark, grim, full of muffled drums and chiming bells, sustains a processional atmosphere of unrelieved gloom; while the Marche triomphale is a huge, extrovert, swaggering affair of pulverising virtuosity. Neither the composer, nor any other pianist attempted to introduce these works to the public and within a few years Alkan had become a total recluse, a quickly fading legend, his extraordinary compositions remaining the sole witness to a genius which was withheld from public scrutiny with a miserly intensity.' Due to fact that I never found this great piece on youtube, I made a little clip for you to enjoy it. I don't know for sure what orchestra is playing this, and I forgot the name of the conductor (I borowed the CD in a library and gave it back a long time ago). What I know is, that it was a bigger Soviet Orchestra, either the Moscov or the USSR Symphony Orchestra. It was recorded somewhere around 1987. Some people say, "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Modest Mussorgsky is the most russian music ever made, but i disagree. Just listen to this wonderful piece of music and you'll understand, why I do think so. "In June 1876, following incidents in which Turkish soldiers killed a large number of Christian Slavs who rebelled against Ottoman Empire and supported by countries like Austria and Russia, Serbia declared war on Turkey. Many Russians sympathized with those they considered to be their fellow Slavs and sent volunteer soldiers and aid to assist the Kingdom of Serbia. In the ensuing struggle the Serbian army was quickly defeated by the Turks. Nikolai Rubinstein, a close friend of Tchaikovsky, asked him to compose a piece for a concert benefiting the wounded Russian volunteers. In a burst of patriotism, Tchaikovsky composed and orchestrated what was first known as the "Serbo-Russian March" (later to be known as "Marche slave") in only five days. Edvard Grieg (15 June 1843 4 September 1907) was a Norwegian composer and pianist who composed in the Romantic period. Grieg is renowned as a nationalist composer, drawing inspiration from Norwegian folk music. Rikard Nordraak was a very good friend of his, and he was also a composer. When he died, in 1866, Grieg composed this funeral march in his honor. The first paintings till 4:34 are from Caspar David Friedrich (1774 - 1840) was a 19th-century German Romantic landscape painter, generally considered the most important of the movement. He is best known for his mid-period allegorical landscapes which typically feature contemplative figures silhouetted against night skies, morning mists, barren trees or Gothic ruins. His primary interest as an artist was the contemplation of nature, and his often symbolic and anti-classical work seeks to convey a subjective, emotional response to the natural world. Friedrich's work characteristically sets the human element in diminished perspective amid expansive landscapes, reducing the figures to a scale that, according to the art historian Christopher John Murray, directs "the viewer's gaze towards their metaphysical dimension". The second paintings are from Ilya Yefimovich Repin (1844 - 1930) was a leading Russian painter and sculptor of the Peredvizhniki artistic school. Torno a condividere fino a dicembre 2010 il video del back stage ed il video definitivo dello spot da 120". I video precedenti sono stati rimossi per una precisa strategia di comunicazione. Si era decisa sin da metà dicembre la condivisione pubblica, senza filtri di sorta della bozza di lavoro del video per 10gg (periodo scelto a cavallo delle vacanze di Natale Capodanno, ritenedolo il più idoneo ad una rapida veicolazione della "notizia"). Il primo obiettivo era quello di valutarne la diffusione, le impressioni, raccogliere indicazioni, suggerimenti e critiche , che sono stati utilizzati per la redazione della versione definitiva del filmato. Il secondoera quello di creare l' "attesa" per la conferenza stampa di presentazione dello spot (dell'11 gennaio) e quella alla triennale di Milano (il 20 gennaio). I risultati di questa strategia di comunicazione sono sotto gli occhi di tutti, decine di pagine di quotidiani nazionali ed internazionali, decine di servizi televisivi, migliaia di visualizzazioni online.
