The Marines' Hymn

The oldest of the US Armed Forces songs. From the halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli, We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea. First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean, We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marines. Our flag's unfurl'd to every breeze From the dawn to setting sun; We have fought in every clime and place Where we could take a gun. In the snow of far-off northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes, You will find us always on the job The United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we've fought for life And have never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.

New Classical Music Composer JOHN MITCHELL on Piano. Geneviève de Brabant is an operetta by Jacques Offenbach, first performed in Paris in 1859. A comic duet for bass and baritone in the character of two gendarmes was added to Act 2: the "Gendarmes' Duet", from HB Farnie's English adaptation. As well as being a popular performance-piece, it formed the musical basis of "THE MARINES HYMN". For Concert Booking Information, Please Contact: AmericanSongwriters@yahoo.com (310) 459-2326

NEW! Marines Hymn - (as you've never heard it before)

To download from iTunes go to itunes.apple.com for a CD go to www.JasonReedMusic.com Visit http today for more from Jason Reed This is a tribute to the United States Marine Corps and to all who have served our country. That feeling of pride that you get when you become a Marine never goes away. It sounds cliché but once you earn that title it stays with you for ever. When we earn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem that we wear on our uniform we inherit a legacy from all those great Marines who came before us. And I feel very strongly that we owe it to those who never made it off the field of battle to carry ourselves in a way that casts the best possible light on their memory, the Marine Corps and ourselves. It is the oldest official song in the US Armed Forces. The song has an obscure origin—the words date from the 19th century, but no one knows the author. The music is from the Gendarmes' Duet from the opera Geneviève de Brabant by Jacques Offenbach, which had its début in Paris in 1859. The Marine Corps secured a copyright on the song on August 19, 1919, but it is now in the public domain. The initial verse is "From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli". The Montezuma phrase refers to the Battle of Chapultepec, which took place during the Mexican-American War. The Tripoli phrase refers to actions during the First Barbary War and the Battle of Derne. The "Marines' Hymn" is typically sung at the position of "attention" as a gesture of respect. History Some of the lyrics were popular phrases before the song was written. The line "To the shores of Tripoli" refer to the First Barbary War, and specifically the Battle of Derne in 1805. After Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon and his Marines hoisted the American flag over the Old World for the first time, the phrase was added to the battle colors of the Corps. [1976] Rocky - Bill Conti - 05 - Marines' Hymn / Yankee Doodle

© 1976 United Artisc Corp. Music video by Bill Conti performing "Marines' Hymn / Yankee Doodle" Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen, and written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. It tells the rags to riches American Dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated but kind-hearted debt collector for a loan shark in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rocky starts out as a club fighter who then gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship. The film also stars Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Adrian's brother Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Rocky's trainer Mickey Goldmill, and Carl Weathers as the champion, Apollo Creed. The film, made on a budget of less than $1 million and shot in 28 days, was a sleeper hit; it made over $225 million the highest grossing film of 1976, and won three Oscars, including Best Picture. The film received many positive reviews and turned Stallone into a major star. It spawned five sequels: Rocky II, III, IV, V and Rocky Balboa. On November 25, 1975, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is introduced as a small-time boxer and collector for Anthony Gazzo (Joe Spinell), a loan shark, living in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. The World Heavyweight Championship bout is scheduled for New Year's Day 1976, the year of the United States Bicentennial. When the opponent of undefeated heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) is injured, Creed comes up with the idea of giving a local underdog a shot ...

Joe Rosenthal's photograph of the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi provided the Marine Corps with an unforgettable brand icon, but Iwo Jima was also a place where 5931 individual Marines were lost (killed, missing, or died of wounds).
