Tibet - Windham Hill Series with Music by Mark Isham Part 1

A Dann Moss Production with Windham Hill Productions, Inc. Original Score by Mark Isham. Mere mention of the word Tibet evokes images of a rich and magical country, its culture shrouded by a remote and inaccessible location. This program provides a look at the place called the "Roof of the World", a place where the heavens and the earth meet, and where centuries old rhythms continue. It is a brief glimpse of vast stretches of empty, high plains and snow-capped peaks. The monasteries and the monks who live there are the last of an ever diminishing religious culture which has no parallel in the West. 5.1 Remix from original multi-tracks supervised by Mark Isham. FLY AWAY HOME (1996) - Mark Isham - Soundtrack Score Suite

Fly Away Home: (Mark Isham) Every once in a while, you get a combination of director, cinematographer, and composer that works so splendidly that the resulting beauty on screen captivates audiences of all ages. Fly Away Home is one such production, with the 1996 film offering the rewarding tale of a girl who has lost her mother and regains her vitality by adopting a flock of geese at her estranged father's large property. With the geese refusing to migrate properly (because of course, the little girl doesn't get up and fly south herself), the girl and her father use an ultralight plane to teach the young birds how to fly and begin their migration. It's a semi-true tale that culminates in the exhilarating journey through a flight at the end of the film that is saturated with wholesome sentimentality (in the days before American homeland security would chase them out of the air). It's an ultimate feel-good story, and composer Mark Isham plays his role in extending the warm and fuzzy feelings throughout his music. The orchestral score, rich with the pastoral styles of small-town Americana, utilizes instrumentation that plays straight to the expected tones of nature and the birds themselves. Woodwinds creatively chirp out the sounds of young birds, specialty string instruments and a harmonica bring back memories of the farm, and tapping percussion present the adversity that the birds face along their course of maturation. Heightening the score more than anything, of course ...

THE HAWK Gotta make your own rules, child, Gotta break your own chains. Your dreams that possess you Can blossom and bless you Or run you insane. The moment is yours, child, To lay on the line. The past just don't matter, Tomorrow won't mind. I don't deserve you, I'm only human. But I swear I'll love you Just as hard as I can. The Beast (1988) OST Part 1 (Mark Isham)

The original soundtrack music was released by CBS/Columbia Records shortly after the movie's debut, written and performed entirely by Mark Isham. The back of the album suggests two tracks, "Badal" and "Nanawatai", but there are in fact ten tracks. Offered in 12-inch LP vinyl, CrO2 cassette and DDD-format compact discs, it is highly sought-after. CD versions are very rare, ranging in open-market price from $50 to $100 each, depending on condition, with ultra-rare, unopened copies fetching far more.

Mark Isham - INVINCIBLE (2006) - Soundtrack Score Suite

The film's most positive aspect, unquestionably, is it's music. The first two-thirds of the film boasts an unusually strong selection of 70's classic rock songs from the likes of Canned Heat, Jim Croce, Rod Stewart, Grand Funk Railroad and many others. The songs, along with the bad haircuts, effectively help establish the film's period and give the film a much-needed sense of life. Mark Isham's fine score is limited to only 20-25 minutes, most of which is featured in the film's final third. The score's first few cues are fairly low-key, saddish pieces, performed by synthesizers, guitars, and occasionally some strings. These piece range somewhere between "Crash" and "Life as a House" in style, and are quite nice, but the highlights come towards the end, as Isham introduces the brass for the first time in a moving cue, featured during a scene when Vince is playing football with his pals. The best piece is easily the grand finish, featuring a triumphant theme featuring some thundering percussion and brass, truly thrilling material. Surprisingly, the song-dominated film also allows Isham's music to grace the end credits, as he slowly works his way back down to the gentle, minimal style the score begins in. With such a short amount of score written for the film, it's unlikely that we'll ever see a release... it's a shame that Disney couldn't include fifteen minutes or so on the songs-only soundtrack.
