Mark Millar talks to Jan Gilbert about Millarworld, dominating the universe, and his latest movie Supercrooks. Mark was on a panel at Kapow! Comic Convention with David Gibbons, Frank Quitely and Nacho Vigalondo. Mark came up with the idea for Supercrooks while wondering why supervillians commit all their robberies in Gotham City where Batman is so brilliant at catching them, so he wanted them to go somewhere where the cops are much less effective like Spain. The concept was picked up very quickly by Marc Platt Productions who Mark made the movie Wanted with. Nacho Vigalondo, who has great experience working with lower-budget films, was then brought on as director. Mark compares Nacho to director Duncan Jones who made the indie film Moon before making the bigger-budget Source Code. Mark and Nacho wrote the screenplay over two weeks in Mark's house. Mark talks about screenwriting vs writing comics and how he hand-drew his own comics when he was five years old and how it was his lifetime ambition to work in comics. Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, two of the biggest names working in comics today, took part in Glasgow Film Festival 2011's Superheroes in Glasgow strand. Cutting his teeth writing for 2000 AD and DC Comics, Mark Millar graduated to Marvel Entertainment ten years ago and in that time has written some of the most successful comic books in the English language, including Wanted and Kick-Ass. Internationally renowned Glaswegian graphic novelist Frank Quitely, aka Vincent Deighan, is best known for his work on titles such as New X-Men, WE3, All Star Superman as well as his work with Mark Millar on The Authority. Following two masterclasses, Mark and Frank offered their top tips on breaking into the comics industry to Festival vlogger, Jonathan Melville. KICK ASS SUPER-HERO WRITER AND FILM-MAKER BACKS SALMOND Kick Ass and Wanted comic-book writer and film-maker Mark Millar has today (Thursday) said: "My name is Mark Millar and I fully endorse Alex Salmond as First Minister for Scotland." The multi-award winning writer and Hollywood film-maker said in an exclusive interview for www.snp.org : "It's an unusual move for me to come out in support of any political party publicly but I think sometimes you have just got to take a stand. It's been a really difficult few years but I think the SNP Government have really risen to the occasion, I think you can define a society by how they treat their poorest and I think this government have really looked after the interests of the people with nothing better than anyone. But at the same time I think they have been great for business too. I think Alex in particular is an amazing politician I think he is the best in the country and I don't just mean Scotland I mean including Westminster too. I think he is a guy you want in charge, you want a professional economist in charge of the country when ever things are this tough. My own personal experience with Alex Salmond is when his office called me a few weeks ago and just said is there anything we can do to help the Scottish film industry. I'm very lucky that I work in Hollywood and I am doing all the things I've wanted to do but there is a lot of talented people in this country who haven't been given the same opportunities that I have got ...

bit.ly - Click to Subscribe! Facebook.com - Become a Fan! Twitter.com - Follow Us! Millar talks kick ass! Hey guys, Im Tatiana carrier and ive got the latest from Kick Ass! Hero Complex contributor Jevon Phillips caught up with writer Mark Millar to find out what's going on with movie sequel and weve got the details! Phiillips asked how the sequel was coming along and millar shared some of the issues with the sequel that weren't present for the original, he said, "The thing about the first movie is that it kind of exploded all our careers. People forget, but this was a $28-million indie movie made in the UK. It grossed $100 million at theaters and made the same again and more on DVD and Blu-ray and got amazing reviews. So everybody involved suddenly got hired for a million different things, and re-forming the band again would be impossible. Hopefully, we can use the same actors if and when we do a sequel, but getting Matthew [Vaughn] to direct or Jane (Goldman) to write a movie at this budget would be very difficult because they're superstars now and they have projects of their own." He went on to explain who would take on which roles by saying, " I'd imagine, if this happens any time soon, that Matthew will produce and possibly co-write, like George Lucas did with "The Empire Strikes Back," and hire a new director. But there's a window because the actors are all supposed to be in high school and if this came out after 2013, for example, that window would have closed." He ...

Not everyone who loves comic book movies reads comic books religiously, and that's why it's handy to have an expert on hand to let you into the secret kingdom of Comicbookland. Scott Sheens works at Kings Comics in Sydney, and he knows his stuff. Whenever I need to continue my adventure through Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman' series, Kings Comics is the place for me. When it comes to finding out more about the comic book world in general, Scott's the guy to talk to - although, obviously, not the only comic book guy to talk to. It's best to get two comic book guys together and let them duke it out! Still, in this interview held at Armageddon, I asked Scott about resets, on whether Mark Millar is a goof or a genius, why rubbish comics sell, and why, Transformers, and what's wrong with it, and what he would screen should a girl come over to his house. I think you'll find it highly informative.

bit.ly - Click to Subscribe! Facebook.com - Become a Fan! Twitter.com - Follow Us! The Avengers isn't the only superhero movie making news this week. It looks like Kick-Ass 2 is officially moving forward and this time we mean it! Despite claims from creator Mark Millar back in February that Kick-Ass 2 would be going into production this summer, not much movement has been made on the comic book sequel...that is until now. Deadline has confirmed that Universal is moving forward with the project and hoping to start production this August. The film was a surprise hit when it was released back in 2010 taking in over $100 million worldwide. Director Matthew Vaughn, who is busy with the X-Men: First Class sequel will turn the reigns over to Never Back Down director Jeff Wadlow who also penned the script. One hurdle the production will face is signing the film's original cast that included Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse who have all seen their stars rise since the original films release. None were locked in for sequels, so new deals will need to be made for them to reprise their roles and of course schedules will have to be worked out, which could be difficult, especially for Chloe Grace Moretz who played Hit Girl. Moretz currently has five films in pre-production, including the remake of Stephen King's Carrie. No release date has been set, but John Romita Jr who illustrated the comic book recently spoke about the project and suggested a May 2013 release ...
