Today they will show you how they make Mascots! The term mascot -- defined as a term for any person, animal, or object thought to bring luck[1] -- colloquially includes anything used to represent a group with a common public identity, such as a school, professional sports team, society, military unit, or brand name. Mascots are also used as fictional spokespeople for consumer products, such as the rabbit used in advertising and marketing for the General Mills brand of breakfast cereal, Trix. In the world of sports, team mascots are often confused with team nicknames[2]. While the two can be interchangeable, they are not always the same. For example, the athletic teams of the University of Tennessee are nicknamed the Volunteers, while their mascot is a dog named Smokey. Team mascots may take the form of a logo, person, live animal, inanimate object or a costumed character, and often appear at team matches and other related events. Since the mid-20th century, costumed characters have provided teams with an opportunity to choose a fantasy creature as their mascot, as is the case with the Philadelphia Phillies' mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. The Mascot (part 1) - Ladislas Starewicz (Puppet Love)
The best stop-motion film ever made, IMHO. Actually, one of the best short films ever made! Starewicz had become a master animator by 1933, incorporating techniques never used before and rarely since (such as moving the puppets during the actual exposure to create blurring for fast movement). His use of rear-screen projection is also surprisingly effective. But more important than these technical details is the great humor of his writing and his sensitivity to character. Each of the dozens of puppets in this film is imbued with a convincing personality; none more so than the title character, known as Fétiche in France and Duffy in England and the US I think the scene of him hanging in a car's rear window is one of the funniest and most poignant scenes you'll find in any film. The character was so successful Starewicz starred him in four more films - if anyone has them, please contact me! We have CGI now, but all Starewicz had was an imagination that wouldn't take "no" for an answer. Whatever he wanted to see on the screen, he created. And he wanted to see some truly bizarre stuff - every imaginable piece of scrap is called up for service: old shoes, chicken bones, utensils, broken glasses, dolls, monkeys, rats...nothing was off limits. A sweet, funny, and also eerie film that should be seen by anyone with even a passing interest in animation. Or film, for that matter.

I hope everyone can please keep in mind that I am only one person and I get many questions a day and requests. Anime North is an anime convention located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which I attend yearly (it runs May 28th-20th this year). Most of the time (if I can, it becomes difficult sometimes since there are so little space at the con) I get an artist's table there and sell my work and so people can meet me in person. This year I am not sure if I will be getting a table (registration opens this Friday) but if I do I will make sure to let everyone know with a video~! If all plans go well, I will be selling prints, stickers, keychains, original artwork, and my original manga "Painters" (if I finish it in time OTL). The Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, played an exhibition game against the University of Nevada at Aces Ballpark to kick-off the 2010 season. Between innings, the Aces mascot, Archie, and University of Nevada mascot, Wolfie, danced atop the dugout for fans. Wolfie started his dance atop the dugout. He finished his dance inside of it.

Miga the Sea Bear : Miga is a snowboarding sea bear inspired by the legends of the Pacific Northwest First Nations tales of orca whales that transform into bears when they arrive on land. Part Spirit Bear, a rare white bear unique to BC, Miga's outgoing spirit and high energy draw her to action and adventure. Quatchi the Sasquatch : Quatchi, a shy and gentle giant, is a sasquatch; a popular figure in local native legends of the Pacific West Coast. The sasquatch reminds us of the mystery and wonder that exists in the natural world. Although Quatchi loves all winter sports, he's especially fond of hockey and dreams of becoming a world-famous goalie. Sumi the Thunderbird : Sumi is an animal spirit who wears the hat of the orca whale, flies with the wings of the mighty thunderbird and runs on the furry legs of the black bear. With a name that is derived from the Salish word sumesh meaning guardian spirit, Sumi is passionate about the environment and is a fan of all Paralympic sports. Mukmuk the Marmot : Mukmuk is a small and friendly Vancouver Island marmot who always supports and cheers loudly for his friends during games and races. Mukmuk, the mascot sidekick, is considered an honourary member of the team and enjoys surprising his friends by popping up on occasion to share in the spirit and fun of the Games. Mukmuk gets his name from the word muckamuck, Chinook jargon for food, because he loves to eat when he's not playing with his mascot friends.
