Making Music & Recording Songs In Logic Pro 8 By Matt Adcock

Several people have asked me how I record songs. This short video shows how I record all the instruments, starting with a 'click' as a guide. The music track takes several days to complete. Then I begin the vocal recordings. In this example there are 5 lead voices and a 16 voice children's choir. When all the vocal parts are recorded I then begin mixing the song, which involves many hours (usually several days) of volume level adjustment, stereo placement (pan), track automation, adding of effects such as reverb. The final process is the mastering stage. Before mastering, the finished mix of the song is 'bounced' or converted into a stereo file so that conventional CD players will be able to play the song. Mastering involves adding EQ, compression and limiting to the song to give it a 'polished' finish. There is no technical jargon in this video because it's not a tutorial and the video would end up being very long. Hopefully this video will give you an idea of how a song is made from the very first piano track, to the final master. It's a very long process but the end result is usually worth the time spent.
