They create dance music containing elements of jazz and African music, combining live instruments like double bass, saxophones, keyboards, flute, and vocals with samplers, effects and synths. They have opened for many international electronica acts, including Basement Jaxx, Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff, Audio Bullys, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and Stereo MCs.[3] Their work features many different vocalists, including Sakhile Moleshe, Max Vidima, Monique Hellenberg, Hlulani Hlangwane and the duo's own David Poole. HAPI Drum from HapiTones.com recorded in the new Integral Scale, key of E, also with Hang Drum and the Array Mbira featuring Patrick Hadley of Array Instruments http No effects are used on the Hapi Drum or Hang Drum, just a touch of reverb..... the monkeys love reverb! The Array Mbira's signal was run through an AdranaLinn 3 processor for sync'd filter effects and delays. The unique tone of the HAPI (hand activated percussion instrument) is created by a tuned vibrating steel tongue. The concept is similar to a wooden tongue drum. When a tongue is quickly and lightly struck with the finger or mallet it vibrates creating sound waves. We have added dampening of the notes and drum body to keep the drum from becoming discordant and "ringy". This technique is built into each drum and provides excellent resonance while supplying the correct amount of dampening. By placing low notes next to the appropriate higher notes we achieve multiple harmonics. Their vibrations create desirable overtones which compliment the timbre of the tone. From an album called 'Unplugged', that seems totally unavailable. I believe that the CD only got a release in Zimbabwe. That was in 2004. Thomas Mapfumo sings with just mbira & hosho. (That's the way I like it BEST) This is a version of Mukai Tiende. I guess that the mbira players here would be Bezil & Ngoni Makombe & that Lancelot Mapfumo adds vocals, but that is only guessing. Anyone wishing this to be pulled for copyright reasons, please mail me here.
