OK, so I was looking online myself for a HOW-TO GUIDE on upgrading the RAM on the Acer Aspire One series NETBOOKS, but to no avail I couldn't find anything regarding this particular model type. AOD255. So ... when I purchased my new netbook I decided to make a video on how-to upgrade the RAM. This is my 1st 'upgrade tutorial' type video so I'm kinda nervous and stuttering and I'm a bit shaky with the camera and the picture sometimes goes fuzzy. If you can get past that I'm sure this video will be quite informative and helpful to you in upgrading the ram. Its a very simple process and it can be done in about 10-15 minutes, with patience =). The RAM I used in this video to upgrade my NETBOOK is as follows: Mushkin Essentials 2GB DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 CL4 SODIMM I recommend either using this same type of memory or the KINGSTON brand of SODIMM memory modules as that is the make of the 1GB stick that comes with the system. Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM (KVR667D2S5/2G) ================================= Once you upgrade the ram and uninstall all the pre-bundled 'BLOATWARE' you will notice that the AOD255 runs pretty quick. Although I am disappointed with the lack of features in 'WINDOWS 7 STARTER' this can also be fixed with a quick WINDOWS ANYTIME UPGRADE. I manged to find a good deal and I purchased a WINDOWS ANYTIME UPGRADE KEY to HOME PREMIUM on eBay for $30 USD. For memory upgrade purposes, note that it is slightly different than the Mini 1012 in that there is no (removable) memory access door under the keyboard to access the memory slot - you need to take off the palm rest to access it! Also, please be sure to know what Dell Mini 10 series netbook you have prior to following this video as there are currently 4 different ones. * Dell Mini 10 (1010) which is easily identifiable as it is the only one that has a HDMI port. This is the only Dell Mini 10 series that cannot have it's memory upgraded. * Dell Mini 10v 1011 -- similar look (body style) to the Mini 10 except that it has a different atom processor (n270, n280) and has VGA instead of HDMI. * Dell Mini 10v 1012 -- has a new hinge design compared to the Mini 1011/1010 and the bottom half is all white, no longer has the huge extended battery that sticks out below the netbook, and has a refresh in specs (atom N450+ processor) * Dell Mini 10v 1018 -- the latest iteration, the one in this video, that is basically the same look as the 1012 but with an all black bottom, a few less ports, upgrade to ddr3 memory, and FINALLY a touchpad with dedicated buttons!
