Found in or about 1942 near Mildenhall, Suffolk, this hoard of silver plate was originally thought by some to be 'impossible' for Roman Britain - it was speculated that members of the US 8th Air Force, then based in the area, may have brought it back from North Africa after a mission there. There is no doubt now that it was buried in Roman Britain, some time in the mid to late 4th century AD. 34 silver objects were found including dishes, bowls, spoons and the crowning glory: the Great Dish (605mm wide, 8.256 kg). There are some references to Christianity on the items but the imagery otherwise belongs to the pagan classical tradition: the Great Dish depicts a Bacchic revel around the head of Oceanus/Neptune.

Program = 2 Cost = £3.75 Camera Used = JVC Everio MG364 Notes: This particular car wash was installed between '97 and '98, making this a 13-14 year old machine. ~80% of the machine is original, the only things changed was a top brush, under carriage wash and replacement wheel washers. Jet have a monopoly in the town when it comes to vehicle cleaning, as the other garage, an esso, has no such facilities. As a result, they charge what I feel extortionate rates for a wash - £3.75 for a foam and scrub, though the top wash, at £5.75 comes with Hot wax, Dry and undercarriage. As for the wash quality, if the foam did a second pass (which it does on higher programs), I feel more muck would have been removed. It did a good job, just small bits were left on. Another thing to note is that the foam was scented, slightly fruity.

The USAF Base at Mildenhall, has a special place in the hearts of aviation fans, it was once home to the SR71, which was kept in a underground hangar, and the airshows held at Mildenhall were truly awesome, things are alot quieter now. The Nook campsite is right next to the base, and is a fantastic place dedicated to the aviation fans.

Part of a bicentennial broadcast at USAF (RAF) Mildenhall, Suffolk in 1976 by the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, live outdoors, at the base. They play American Patrol & My Guys Come Back. Syd Lawrence (26 June 1923 -- 5 May 1998), was a British bandleader from Chester, England who became famous in the UK for his orchestra's Big Band Sound which drew on the 1940s style of music of Glenn Miller and Count Basie amongst others. Born in Wilmslow in 1923, Lawrence was a talented trumpet player during the Second World War. He wrote and arranged music and his early talent was recognised in those fields as well. He was based in Cairo during the war years, playing and arranging for the RAF service bands. After he left the forces, he played with some of the leading British dance bands of the 1940s, finally being invited to join the BBC's Northern Dance Orchestra in 1953. He stayed with this band for 16 years playing alongside fellow trumpet player Stan Hibbert. In 1967 Lawrence teamed up with several of his colleagues at the Northern Dance Orchestra to play the music that he was most enthusiastic about, that of Glenn Miller. Early concerts at the Mersey Hotel in Manchester were a great success, and larger venues were found to play in as the reputation of his band grew. Yorkshire Television gave The Syd Lawrence Orchestra a regular spot on the comedy show Sez Les. As the music became more popular, Lawrence and his band started touring around the UK, which they did with great success for <b>...</b>
