Most questions about this, are answered in the description below. Download this in full HD here - for home use only dakotalapse.com Windows Media Quicktime During the month of May, I shot Milky Way timelapse in central South Dakota, when I had the time, and the weather cooperated. The biggest challenge was cloudy nights and the wind. There were very few nights, when I could shoot, that were perfectly clear, and often the wind was blowing 25mph +. That made it hard to get the shots I wanted. I kept most of the shots low to the ground, so the wind wouldn't catch the setup and cause camera shake, or blow it over. I used a Stage Zero Dolly on the dolly shots and a "Milapse" mount on the panning ones. Astronomers tracking stars in the center of the galaxy have found the best proof to date that black holes exist. Now, they are shooting for the first direct image of a black hole. From a distance, our galaxy would look something like this. And yet, the clues have been piling up, that something important...something strange... is going on in there. The first to take notice was the physicist Karl Jansky back in the 1930s. One of the challenges in making this video, was trying to get good storm and star shots. The opportunity doesn't come along very often, the storm has to be moving the right speed and the lightning can overexpose the long exposures. I had several opportunities this summer to get storm and star shots. In one instance, within a minute of picking up the camera and dolly, 70mph winds hit. One storm was perfect, it came straight towards the setup, then died right before it reached it. At the 1:57 mark a Whitetail buck came in to check out the setup. It was caught on 20 frames, and was there for about 10 minutes. It was only 50 yards from the camera, dolly and light. At the 3:24 mark, a meteor reflects on the water of the small lake, see still below in Photos. There are also quite a few other meteors in the timelapse. This was all shot in central South Dakota from June-August. Canon 5D Mark II for a few shots, Canon 60D and T2i Canon 16-35, Tokina 11-16 Exposure on most shots was 20-30 seconds, ISO 1600 or 3200 F2.8. Simon Wilkinson at the www.bluemask.com created the music "Tempest" and sound for it. I used the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly on most of the shots as well, it is awesome. http Contact for licensing or anything else Randy Halverson www.dakotalapse.com Follow Google + www.plus ...

The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxy are on a collision course! In about 3 billion years, the two galaxies will collide. Then over a span of 1 billion years or so after a very complex gravitational dance, they will merge to form an elliptical galaxy.

Milky Way Time Lapse Video

This is a time lapse video of the Milky Way rising in the south east sky, viewed from Death Valley. The Milky Way is our own galaxy, a thick spinning disc of stars with arms that thin as they spiral outward. Our Sun is located in one of the arms. When viewed from our Suns location, the Milky Way appears as a broad band across the sky. The Milky Way is not aligned with the plane of the ecliptic, so it is not parallel with the paths that the moon and Sun follow across our sky. The central core of the Milky Way, which is the thick disc-like center of the galaxy, lies on the right side of this video. Some satellites and planes can be seen briefly in the video, along with a few shooting stars (meteors) near the bottom of the frame just before dawn. This was shot with a Canon 1Ds Mark III digital SLR camera over a period of about six hours, and is composed of about 500 photographs.

Milky Way - Journey through our Galaxy

Video about the Milky Way as seen from Earth by the megatelescopes of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). The first part of this video shows the central part of our Milky Way Galaxy, starting with images in the visible spectrum, and then when the sequence closes in on the centre it shifts to VISTA (Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) infrared images and penetrates most of the dust revealing huge numbers of hidden stars. In the second part follows a sequence where the VISTA infrared view of the region of the Galactic Centre is scanned. The third part is a zoom sequence that starts with a view of the central parts of the Milky Way Galaxy and works inwards and towards the Arches Cluster, buried deep beyond the dust clouds, then follows a transition from visible to near-infrared observations. The fourth and last part shows a sequence that uses an 800-million-pixel, 360-degree panoramic image featured in the GigaGalaxy Zoom project, launched by ESO within the framework of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), it moves towards the Galactic Centre, and then across the Galactic Plane that runs horizontally through the image. First and second parts motion pictures made by ESO / VISTA / S. Guisard and the Cambridge Astronomical Survey Unit; third and fourth parts made by ESO / S. Brunier, P. Espinoza, S. Guisard, Digitized Sky Survey 2 and A. Fujii. ALL MOTION IMAGESRELEASED BY ESO UNDER AN ATTRIBUTION-UNPORTED 3.0 CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE. Music ...

The Milky Way's Collision Course with Andromeda

Complete video at: fora.tv UC Berkeley Astronomy Professor Chung-Pei Ma shows how spiral galaxies occasionally merge with one another, which, she says, will eventually happen to our own Milky Way Galaxy when it collides with the Andromeda Galaxy. ----- This program was recorded at the 12th Annual Wonderfest, the San Francisco Bay Area Festival of Science. Wonderfest's broad goals are best described by its mission statement: Through public discourse about provocative scientific questions, Wonderfest aspires to stimulate curiosity, promote careful reasoning, challenge unexamined beliefs, and encourage life-long learning. Wonderfest achieves these ends by presenting series of scientific events to the general public. At most of these events, pairs of articulate and accomplished researchers discuss and debate compelling questions at the edge of scientific understanding. - Wonderfest Chung-Pei Ma is a professor of astronomy at UC Berkeley.

The Church - Under The Milky Way

"Under the Milky Way" is a 1988 song by Australian alternative rock band The Church. Written by the band's vocalist and bassist, Steve Kilbey, and his then-girlfriend Karin Jansson, the song was originally released on The Church's Starfish album and won the Australian ARIA award for best song in 1989. The song was the band's only international hit, staying in the US top 40 for several weeks, and charting in Canada (#69) and the UK (#90). In their native Australia, "Under The Milky Way" was also a hit, peaking at #22. However, it was not their biggest homeland hit: The Church placed two singles slightly higher in the Australian charts in their career ("Almost With You" at #21, and "Metropolis" at #19). Unlike most of the band's songs, "Under the Milky Way" featured a 12-string acoustic guitar melody along with a solo that, although sounding like a bagpipe, was actually an EBow on a Fender Jazzmaster. According to a press release issued with Starfish, the song was written about an Amsterdam music and cultural venue called Melkweg (Dutch for "Milky Way"), which Kilbey used to frequent. The single was released in several configurations (7", double 7", 12", CD single), in many countries, with at least five different cover art designs. The main b-sides were "Musk" and "Warm Spell." Spanish versions added "Anna Miranda" and "Perfect Child." Sheet music for "Under The Milky Way" was published by Hal Leonard. A colorfully cinematic music video was filmed for the song; it is ...
