The nearly 500000 US Army documents published by WikiLeaks this year didn't mark the first time founder Julian Assange thumbed his nose at the Pentagon. A new documentary about the secret-spilling site captures Assange in a rare moment of reminiscence as he reflects on his hacking of a Defense Department network in the 1990s, where he evidently kept a backdoor in place for some two years. The documentary WikiRebels, produced by Sveriges Television in Sweden, was recently posted on the web in four parts. It provides an overview of Assange and WikiLeaks from the time the site published a classified Army video last April showing an Apache gunship attack in Iraq, to the latest release of US State Department cables. It also includes interviews with several current and former WikiLeaks activists, including former spokesman Daniel Domscheit-Berg and Icelandic volunteer Herbert Snorrason, who discuss the internal conflict at WikiLeaks that led them to resign. It's a compelling documentary, even if it provides little new information. In one segment (above, at 3:53), Assange reflects on his work as a black hat hacker in the early 1990s, recalling wistfully how he and others hacked into the Pentagon's Security Coordination Center. The SCC was a Chantilly, Virginia, office that handled computer security issues for MilNet — later NIPRNet — the US military's portion of the public internet. Highway of Heroes (Never had a chance to say goodbye)
In Ontario, when a Canadian soldier dies for his country in Afghanistan they touch Canadian soil at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. From there, a funeral procession leaves the base and heads to Toronto, Ontario taking our departed heroes to the Centre for Forensic Sciences. Along the 172km path of Highway 401 people fill the overpasses to show their support, waving Canadian flags and signs, in a sort of paying their respects to the fallen and their families. The Ontario "Highway of Heroes" Petition to Ontario Ministry of Transportation was created by members of Milnet.ca and written by James Forbes (forcerecon85@hotmail.com). On August 24, 2007 it was announced that Ontario's provincial government consulted the federal government, municipalities along the highway and the Royal Canadian Legion and on September 7, 2007 it was official, a stretch of the 401 would be renamed 'Highway of Heroes'. The highway will not lose its official designation as the MacDonald-Cartier Freeway, but signs would be erected designating the route as the Highway of Heroes. The Song 'Highway of Heroes' was recorded as an extension of the emotion expressed when thousands of Canadians voiced their desired to honour our fallen soldiers by having a part of the 401 renamed. Hopefully, when the song is heard, it will remind everyone to take a moment and reflect on what is truly important in their lives.

En este apasionante documental se habla de la historia de internet, desde su origen más remoto, la inicial estructura militar ARPANET, hasta la actualidad con el inminente cambio de protocolo IPv6. Internet fue una de las consecuencias de la Guerra Fría en los años 50 cuando el mundo estaba dividido en dos grandes bloques antagonistas, el comunismo de la URSS y el capitalismo de los EEUU. Fue entonces cuando se logró poner un hombre en la Luna, pero también los militares tuvieron que pensar un sistema para que en caso de que hubiera una guerra nuclear no quedasen incomunicados, de esta forma se creó una primera red de uso estrictamente militar llamada ARPANET que supondría el embrión de internet, luego esta red empezó a tener derivaciones que básicamente lo que hicieron fue incorporar el mundo académico y científico hasta finalmente provocar la eclosión social a todos los ámbitos. El documental tiene una duración de 8 minutos y puede proyectarse en cualquier ámbito educativo. Su objetivo es tener una visión panorámica y general de cómo se inventó internet y cuáles han sido los principales hitos desde su origen hasta nuestros días.

Während wir uns den Weg durch die Untergrundtunnels von Vandenberg bahnen, werden uns allerhand mechanische und radioaktive Gefahren entgegengeworfen. Auseinandersetzungen mit Spinnenbots und Explosionen in der verseuchten Gefahrenzone bringen uns aber schließlich nicht so schwer ins Schwitzen wie das Tauchen ohne Luft in der Lunge. Zum Glück können wir das Wasser in den Lungen mit einem Medikit beseitigen... Wait. What? O_o Als wir endlich aus diesem Rattenloch hinaussteigen können, haben wir Zugang zur Kommandozentrale. Dort steht der Zentralrechner des Milnet (Military Network), in den wir uns hacken sollen. Die Umgebung um den Rechner ist allerdings höchst elektrisierend, was uns das Durchqueren erschwert und wir fast ein Bein verlieren. Außerdem gibt es ein Wiedersehen mit einem alten Kollegen. Sam Carter arbeitet doch für die richtige Seite.
