A Small Native Gold Nugget as found by the Minelab GPX-4500 last weekend. Location: NSW, Australia. A Garrett Pro-Pointer (Pulse-Induction pinpointer) was used to pinpoint the nugget in the soil after it was knocked out of an open mulloch heap. The debris was stacked there by miners in the 1870s who were extracting a reef of gold in quartz and a wombat has recently dug out the soil beneath it. Part of this face has collapsed and exposed the interior of the mound. Rena is shown holding the detector at the beginning of the short clip. The nugget weighed just shy of 4 grams. I had intended to use a Monoloop Coil this day but had mounted my spare rod upside down and was unable to remove the nylon bolt in order to turn it around. I therefore had to use the stock Double-D coil instead... which was fine. It's a little mineralized where I was so the Double-D was a quieter coil for the region. YouTube really screws up the video quality by compressing it to abominable resolutions. Do yourself a favor and watch it in High Resolution (HQ)

A quick hunt (2.5 hours) in the field in front of my house. This field has produced a few coins but very few silver - most are well worn georgian / victorian pennies and halfpennies at great depth. Since the Etrac is capable of locating targets at a good depth, I am pulling coins out even after the fields have been well detected by other people years ago. I was using the 'Roman site pattern' downloaded from the MInelab website and I find it better than the standard 'Relic' pattern as the audio signals given by decent targets are much easier to recognise. In this field I had the sensitivity set on auto +3 since there is very little interference on this site. The machine was running between 26-28 sensitivity mostly with very little chatter and it found some very deep targets. Check out my other detecting videos - there are loads. Thanks for watching. Compared my ETrac to Vaquero on a dime, 6" down. I set ETrac and Vaquero to highest sens without chatter. My standard "park settings" on my Vaquero get me 7 - 8 inches on coins.

I had a spare couple of hours so took myself to Hexhamshire. Since it was near the battle of Hexham (1464) and very little is known about the battle, I had hoped to find something historic since the detecting site was near a drovers road and ford. What I found wasn't what I expected as I uncovered what looked like an army camp site from the middle of last century. I even found remains of a fire about 10" under current ground level. In less than 3 hours I found 29 coins, 6 of which were silver and a beret badge from the army medical corps. Groovy. The land was uncontaminated apart from a few places so I used the 18" x 15" coil on my Minelab Etrac metal detector. I did take the 11" coil with me but only used the large coil today. On the next dig, I will use my new 8" x 6" coil for the contaminated parts and hopefully pull up a few suprises. This site will get a few more visits....... The target separation and ability to make discriminaion patterns is a real plus point and makes a difference when searching in trashy sites. Had a great time with friends CZ Bob, Synthnut Jim in Ocean City New Jersey. Had a nice learning session on deep Gold rings, with the CZ21 and AT Pro. Spent a few hours today just going thur the Jersey files and this is what I came up with...one interesting thing I noticed..the excalibur hit the 7.5 gold at 14 inch's, no problem, but struggled to find it at 15? Maybe you were right bob, black sand. But no matter, the CZ punched thur what ever held the xcal back. Also the AT Pro got none of the targets when first tested but nailed the 10 inch small gold when we tried it second time around...Well maybe we can line up again this fall, with more detectors. I learned alot from this meeting and for sure the CZ20 will be with me on the next trip.

Spent part of Memorial Day trying out my new CTX 3030. Did very well even with a big learning curve ahead of me.

Finally, I have found a silver hammered coin with my Etrac. It was only about 3" under the ground on pasture land near my house. Unfortunately I was hunting when it was dark (great backlit screen on the etrac) and didn't have my video camera when I found it. It gave a solid 2 way signal, reading 12-20 and it was the only thing of note that I found on that hunt. It is an Edward 1st 'long cross' penny and it is an Exeter mint. Edward reigned in England from 1272 to 1307. Hopefully this will be the first of many hammered coins.

Here I put a 7 ounce plus Platinum nugget in the test hole, It goes off like a bomb!!.. very very conductive!!.. Super Super Rare a platinum nugget of this size is likely as rare as a 200oz nugget of gold!!! or a 50 carat flawless diamond!!.. Amazing!!

5 hour hunt in ploughed fields and pasture with the Minelab Etrac using the 11" DD stock coil. The fields had been covered in cow muck so I opted to use the Etrac instead of the Deeptech Vista RG1000 as the etrac had full protection covers so could be cleaned up. The RG1000 was a mates machine and I didn't want to send it beck smelling of cow crap - lol Next hunt is on pasture where I found 7 silver with the RG1000 so I will be using that machine again - hopefully more silvers.....

I used a IP68 toggle switch, along with rescue tape, Rtv silicon, loctite epoxy, plummers silicon grease. bicycle handle bar end, heated with a propane torch and to pull apart.
