Waves of Service Leader Christine Pechera (Pepperdine University Seaver College Graduate Student '15) speaks about her experience recruiting minority audiences for her nonprofit organization (Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches). When Christine was in need of a bone marrow transplant, there were 4 million people in the donor registry. Unfortunately, only about 120000 were Asians who could be potential matches for her, limiting her chances in an already difficult process. Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches works to recruit additional minority donors for bone marrow transplants. They are working to get more donors from Asian, African American, and Hispanic/Latino populations, which only make up a small fraction of the total donor registry. Christine speaks about how her organization reaches its target audience. This event was part of the Nonprofit Leadership Speaker Series by Seaver College's Business Administration Division at Pepperdine University in 2011-2012.
