And it's just as easy to make if you have the right ingredients. To complete this How-To you will need: 4 c. fresh, cold water A 2 or 3-qt. pot A hotplate or stovetop A long piece of konbu seaweed 4 tbsp. bonito flakes A small mesh strainer 1/4 lb. soft tofu, cut into small cubes 2 wakame seaweed 4 red or white miso paste 3 chopped scallions A small ladle A spoon or whisk And a medium-sized bowl Step 1: Put water on stove Pour the water into the pot and place it on the stove or hotplate at medium heat. Step 2: Add konbu Break off a 4 to 6-inch piece of konbu and add it to the water. Tip: Konbu—also known as sea cabbage or kelp—is available at most health food stores. Step 3: Simmer & remove Simmer the konbu for 15 minutes, then remove it from the water and throw it away. Step 4: Add bonito Add bonito flakes to the pot and simmer on medium-low heat for 5 minutes. HALLOWEEN Miso Simmered Eggplant Witch

Miso simmered eggplant is pretty popular dish in Japan. I arranged it for Halloween, so I hope you like it! Without a question, it goes great with white rice!!! --------------------------------- Miso Simmered Eggplant Witch Difficulty: Medium Time: 30min Number of servings: 4 Ingredients: 4 eggplants (5-6 inches long) A * 200cc dashi broth (using packaged dashi powder saves time) * 1 tbsp. mirin (sweet sake) * 1 tbsp. sake * 1/2 tbsp. sugar B * 1 tbsp. red miso * 2 tbsp. white miso 4 star-shaped thick carrot slices Directions: 1. Make "Chasen Nasu" and soak in water to remove the oxalic acid. The procedure for "Chasen Nasu" is HERE: createeathappy.blogspot.com 2. Heat A in a deep pot, dilute miso in 1/2 cup soup broth, add Chasen Nasu and carrot slices, then cover with Otoshi Buta (drop-lid) and cook on low heat for 10 minutes. Flip eggplants, cover and simmer for another 10 minutes until the eggplants soften. 3. Pour the soup on a dish, twist and press the eggplant by hand to form the witch shape. 5. Attach carrot slices with a toothpick (like a magic stick) and stick it on to the eggplant witch. Drop-lid is called "Otoshi Buta" a in Japanese. It is traditionally made of wood but you can use aluminum foil. They ensure that the heat is evenly distributed and reduce the tendency of liquid to boil with large bubbles and break the fragile ingredients. レシピ(日本語) cooklabo.blogspot.com --------------------------------- Happy Halloween :D Products I used: Ajinomoto Hon ...

How to Make Perfect Miso Soup

How to Make Perfect Miso Soup - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Today I am going to show you how to make perfect miso soup; now miso soup for the japanese is a comfort food. We eat this at least once a day, and depending on which season it is or which region it is made, we have many many different kinds of miso soup. For example: summertime we put summer vegetables, and in wintertime we put something like daikon radish. And miso, if it is in Kioto we use white miso, and if is in Aichi prefecture we use red miso. So there is no just one type of miso soup, but today I am going to show you a basic Miso soup. Today I am going to use daikon radish, wakame seaweed, tofu scallion. And this is combine miso, so it is not really white nor red, it is kind of in between. And this is dashi, it is a stock made from kombu kelp, bonito flake; so let's start. Now first of all you are going to put dashi into the pot, and turn on the heat. Now when it comes to miso, you do not want to boil miso. The reason, is a fermented food, and it has it has so many micro organisms living inside. So if you boil this, the harsh heat will destroy the flavor and it does not taste good. So whatever you need to boil, you need to boil before adding miso. So today there is only one thing that I need to boil, which is daikon radish. So I am going to cook this in the dashi like this and let it cook. So the daikon reddish is cooked already, now we can start adding tofu, and wakame seaweed. We are going ...

Mate Miso Kovac 1976 Kad jednom odes ne vracaj se vise

Mate Miso Kovac 1976 Kad jednom odes ne vracaj se vise. Mišo Kovač (born July 17, 1941) is a Croatian singer who is one of the most popular musical icons in Croatia today. Mišo Kovač was born to Zrinka and Jakov Kovač on 16 July 1941 in Tribunj, a modern-day Croatian town close to Šibenik at a time when the region was under Italian occupation during World War II. He had a sister named Blanka and a brother named Ratko. Young Mišo Kovač was learning the trade of carpet maker, but his appearance at a talent show in Karlovac changed his life. He made such an impression with his rendition of I Can't Stop Loving You by Ray Charles that he decided to become a professional singer. His first hit came in 1969 with the song Više se neće vratiti (sold in half a million copies) and in 1970 he won the prestigious Split Music Festival with the song Proplakat će zora (also half a million copies). This and other songs, inspired by Dalmatian folk music, helped Mišo Kovač establish himself as the most popular singers in Croatia. In the next two decades, Mišo Kovač won many prestigious festival awards, topped music charts and sold vinyl discs, cassettes and CDs in record numbers. His song Dalmacija u mom oku (Dalmatia In My Eye) was seen as a semi-official anthem of Dalmatia. Mišo Kovač was also one of the first entertainers in Croatia to use image and lifestyle in order to maintain popularity. Tonjiru - Pork and Vegetable Miso Soup

This is a video of some cooking I did last night. It is a really nice soup, and the amount I made was enough for 3 bowls (like the one in the video) or probably 4 smaller bowls (as you might use if serving this with other dishes). I mention in the video to leave comments about my cooking and videos. What I meant was whether you find it interesting, and what other things you would like to see in terms of Japanese cooking. If people have ideas, I am more than happy to go out with my camera and find more info!
