Made in an evening from developed but unexposed reel left over from narrative film that my fellow student, Bart Cohen, and I made for a project in English. In recent years he's been making large scale drawings, paintings and woodcuts, aided by several CNC machines and the programs he authors to control them. This short video documents the beginning and end of a portrait drawn in a spiral of 1 inch 'tiles' inspired in part by Jacques Mellan's 1649 engraving "Sudarium".

Printing 'Sara' 42x77 inches on handmade paper by Japanese Living National Treasure, Iwano Ichibei using a stationary bed pinch roller press of Lyon's design and a unique sliding drawer humidor which allows him to print such large sheets single handed. Video shows printing the 7th of 10 sheets over the 4th block, then changing blocks and resetting paper.

Marki was diagnosed at the age of 16 with a rare but critical congenital heart defect " Anomalous Origin of the Right Coronary Artery". One of the leading causes of "Sudden Death". She had Open Heart Surgery to repair the artery. After four months with no activity and 8 weeks to the date after her OHS, she played with her high School team in their Conference Playoffs.
