www.bbc.co.uk Mohamad Reza Jalali Naini was born in 1914 in Nain, Isfahan Province into a privilaged family. He studied in Isfahan and finished high school in Tehran. He continued his studies at the University of Tehran and studied law. Jalali Naini was a genuine and a relentless scholar who spent most part of his life studying Indian culture and relegions and met Indian prominent figures, Prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Jalali's studies on Quran, Hafez ,Indian religions, Sanskrit and its relation to Persian culture are pioneering research, in particular Rig Veda (1700-1100 BC) an ancient Indian sacred collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns and its relationship with early Iranian Avesta. Mohamad Reza Jalali Naini was elected as the president of the Iranian Bar Association (Kanoon Vokala) in the 1970s and he was also elected to the Senate (Majlese Sena) and was a founding member of the National Front (Jebheye Meli) Jalali Naini was a journalist, a politician, a lawyer, a passionate scholar and above all a man of principle. He was kind, honest, modest , honourable and connected with people of all backgrounds with extra ordinary ease. He leaves behind, his wife, two daughters, three sons and five grand children.
