The Boomtown Rats were an Irish rock band that scored a series of UK hits between 1977 and 1980 and were led by vocalist Bob Geldof, who organized the Ethiopian relief efforts, Band Aid and Live Aid. Geldof was born Robert Frederick Zenon Geldof in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland, to parents of Catholic extraction. He attended Blackrock College, near Dublin, a school whose staunch Catholic nationalist ethos he disliked. After work as a slaughterman, road navvy and pea canner, he started as a music journalist in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, for the weekly publication Georgia Straight. Their music combined rock and house elements in a unique fusion which, coupled with Shaun Ryders biting lyrics, became the soundtrack of the era. This DVD captures the band on their first American tour in 1990 in support of their bestselling album Pills n Thrills And Bellyaches. It combines brilliant full performance footage from The Sound Factory in New York with behind the scenes material to give a really intimate portrait of the band at their peak. Hi. My name is Nice Peter, and this is the Monday Show. Admittedly, I write these words on a Tuesday, but some of the best things in life come at the weirdest times! Thanks to my old dear friend from Chicago Jeremy for filming and accidentally losing the audio. We work best with what we can, that's all we can do, after all. Thanks to all people who came out to the show, and all people who wish they could have come out, but lived somewhere else. It was exciting to be back onstage, we're going to do it again, where to go next! My old friend and UK manager Ed is flying from England for a visit in June, so we can sit and sip Becks and discuss the timing of a Europe/UK tour. This is interesting, I didn't get to talk much in this Monday show so I feel particularly verbose in the description. I dare say this V log is turning into a bit of a B. Also, it's early, much too early, 7am. I had to meet a man named Dr Wood here at the studio. I'm not kidding. Dr Wood is a carpenter who is going to cut a giant whole in the wall of our recording room and install another glass partition, so we can move the drums out and have a separate booth. It's going to let us make some awesome new music, and it's also going to have carpenters here every morning at 7. I'm going to have a get-up-early kind of week, which is unusual for me, but I'm excited about it. The world looks different very early in the morning, I like the way the sun is still yawning up into the sky. It's very nice of you to read <b>...</b>

It was also the duo's fourth #1 song on the Adult Contemporary singles chart. However, the song failed to chart in the United Kingdom until it went to #63 in a reissue there in 1993. The song was composed in 1971 by Roger Nichols and Paul Williams. It was released as the first track on the album Carpenters. The B-side on the single is "Saturday." About Paul Williams Williams is responsible for a number of enduring pop hits from the 1970s, including several hits for Three Dog Night (such as "An Old Fashioned Love Song", "The Family of Man", and "Out in the Country"), Helen Reddy ("You and Me Against the World"), and The Carpenters, most notably "Rainy Days and Mondays," "I Won't Last a Day Without You," and "We've Only Just Begun", which has since become a cover-band standard and de rigueur for weddings throughout North America. (This last was originally a song for a Crocker National Bank television commercial featuring newlyweds.) An early collaboration with Roger Nichols, "Someday Man", was covered by The Monkees (a group for which he auditioned but was not cast) on a 1969 single, and was the first Monkees' release not published by Screen Gems. Bobby Sherman also sang "Cried Like a Baby". Anne Murray sang "Talk It Over in the Morning". He also wrote the cantata Wings with music by Michel Colombier.
