Rudess-Morgenstein Project - Drop The Puck
The duo is made up of Jordan Rudess and Rod Morgenstein. The album came about after a power outage during a Dixie Dregs concert caused all of the Dregs' instruments to fail except Jordan's, so he and Rod improvised with each other until power was restored and the concert could continue. The chemistry between them was so strong that they decided to pair up and make their own album and subsequent tour.

This was something cool that happened during the EpiK DrumS - A Ken Scott Collection sessions at Emblem Studios. I was working with Keith Emerson on an upcoming sample library for Sonic Reality and needed to meet with him so after I heard Rod Morgenstein say he was an ELP fan I told Keith to come to the studio to surprise him. This is a behind the scenes look at the Rod Morgenstein sample sessions with Ken Scott and Sonic Reality. Here Ken is recreating the drum multi-tracks of the Dixie Dregs from records he recorded with Rod over 20 years ago. These incredible grooves and the drum kit itself will be playable from Sonic Reality's Infinite Player plug-in which is bundled with the Ken Scott Collection and expected to be released in April/May 2009.

Over The Edge - Rudess Morgenstein Project - For Fun!
This is me playing Over the Edge by Jordan Rudess from the Rudess-Morgenstein project. I took a year or so break from playing music and only recently I've been getting back into it, so I figured this would be a good practice song to help slowly get my chops back up to par. Well, I did this in 1 take - there are some minor little errors, a couple of outright flubs, and being a perfectionist this video was hard to post but I figured it would be a great way of keeping track of stuff while I progress and get back into music again. The keyboard is a Kurzweil 2500 XS with the Piano/Orch/Contemp roms, 128 megs of sample ram, and nothing is sequenced (All played live) The sounds are all original (no presets used on the Kurzweil here) but please don't ask me for the sounds - unless you have a K2500/2600/2661, they won't work. Also, even if you do have a 2500/2600 then you should work on programming them yourself! I'm changing the sounds with a pedal, not via midi. The soundcard sucks (Inboard on my laptop) so the audio is all clipped. I'll record a better version in the future with a much better video camera and external USB audio instead of the junk used here. Enjoy!

Here at Berklee, I've started taking private lessons with Rod Morgenstein, and this was his first assignment for me - to listen to the playalong of Purple Rainbow and create a drum part for it. Needless to say, this is what I made of the song. I broke out my baby, my 70s LM402 for this recording. Gotta love it. I have a couple new toys on this video! First off, this is my first bounced recording from Pro Tools 9 and the very first recording I've done with my new kick mic - an EV RE27N/D. It's exactly the kick sound I've been seeking! No EQ was used during for any part of the recording, but compression was used a lot.
