Desert Splinter Mottle MkII

This is actually in response to the naysayers of ACUPAT in NutnFancy's ACU Camo Test: Western US; I made this pattern about 1980 or 81. I was not happy with the new 6 colour desert pattern that the DoD came out with since it was not usable in any other terrain except semi-arid & arid desert. The Mojave Desert was in my backyard (over a hundred miles away) (Hey! We're talking LA here) and it had sagebrush, yucca, and other desert vegetation. There was always some green out there, and it just seemed to me that the 6 colour pattern was just wrong. As you can see from the stills, the pattern worked reasonably well. If you see me at a distance, it is because of the Y harness, the buttpack, and mag pouches. They were all in olive green, and stuck out.(They didn't make them in tan back then) The helmet covers came with the Vietnam era steel pots. They were reversible, with a mottle tan pattern on one side, and the flip side had a mottle green pattern. I gave up on the camo because I realized that in a WROL situation,(Yes, we were even thinking about that back then. Remember the movie Red Dawn?) I could end up getting killed very easily wearing that jacket. My logic was that if somebody saw someone wearing something they did not recognize as being friendly, they are liable to shoot first and ask questions later. I also spoke with a noticeable accent back then, and I was the wrong skin tone. (Like Nutnfancy says, I'm just keeping it real) To play it safe, I decided to just go with ...
