A fresh out of the box Wireless Digital Picture Frame (10.4"). Innocent enough. It runs on Windows CE 5 according to a sticker on the back of it. I wanted to make sure that wasn't a lie. This is me getting to the bare WinCE5 OS after I discovered a trick to crash the main "slideshow" app. All I have plugged into the main USB port is: 1) 4-Port USB Hub 2) Cheapo USB keyboard 3) Cheapo USB mouse 4) Near the end of the video, a cheapo 32MB USB flashdrive. I'm not exactly sure what happens, but I can reproduce this time and time again. Basically you need both the mouse and keyboard plugged in, scroll down past the "Settings" option, scroll back up, and click the word "Settings" with your mouse. There is no enter key on the keyboard so you have to click the mouse. WinCE5 (at least with this device) is very limited. No IE browser, Minimo refuses to work. Yep, we finally figured out how the darn IR camera works. It's just a quick hack, but I've written a program to take the data from the Wiimote, filter it a bit, and emulate a mouse. It's actually quite a decent input device, although I recommend using big icons. I've demonstrated a few simple activities with it. Buttons on the Wiimote map to mouse buttons and scroll wheel. Of course, the sensor bar has to be on for this to work (make your own, as documented in many places, or just power yours off your Wii as I use here) I'm working on a full-blown Linux driver with support for every feature known, multiple clients, and a lot more (with no ugly hacks). With all that snow around Christmas I started thinking about this game again - and how awesomely it would work with Kinect. Possibly one of the most underrated games of all time Fahrenheit (EU) / Indigo Prophecy (US) is the intellectual forefather to a little known PS3 title - Heavy Rain. As good as an interactive cinematic experience can get, Fahrenheit pioneered gesture based controls (all be it via a mouse) and quick time events. The plot sees you trying to unravel a murder that you committed but have no relocation of carrying out. In tandem you are put into the bodies of two DI's who follow along behind you discovering clues based on what you did as the murderer. Combined with the multiple story paths, Fahrenheit is an almost Shakespearian title with such a pioneering interface that it works in perfect synergy with Kinect. If you haven't played it go and BUY it, you won't regret it. Once again movement is done via a chuck, I thought maybe it would be possible to get away with walking in place and using hand gestures on this one - but still that seems to detract from the experience. The issue with walk cycles is calculating when you have stopped moving and the issue with hand gestures is that using button presses are not accurate enough even for slow paced 3rd person games. Mouse control is executed via a GlovePIE script I wrote which takes the key binds from FAAST and converts them into mouse events. Back when i first tried this, blue leds were not bright enough. Flash forward 4 years and now they are. most red lit optical mice are capable of this mod. the sensor in optical mice are actually either CCD or CMOS low resolution cameras. (not to be confused with the movement resolution of actual mouse tracking. I have tested this with green and white. Both work but it seems that actual colors are more responsive as it helps make pasterns on the surface more detectable. I am interested to see if one of those continously changing disco LEDS will work with this since they are continously changing but never actuall turn off. The pwm driver however may have an adverse effect on these type of LEDs. Make sure you get the right LED for you mouse. as I get out of my depressing slump, I will be posting more interesting things to do with other interesting things... dont forget to view my other videos.

It took 1 year and a half but me, CJ (waffleman1201), and a few other friends have finished our light weight Wii Firmware 4.3U hack! We used a striped down light weight version of Windows Vista and the Wii Firmware and made the Wii able to run computer programs! There are still LOTS of bugs though. Bugs: Mouse cursor will show when it shouldn't be shown. Mouse cursor will sometimes go off screen. Won't work online yet. Sound doesn't work. Windows Vista Boot Splash on Wii Starup (not shown) is glitchy. As promised, may I present DOOM! This Hack uses FAAST and snes9x to bring Doom to Kinect! Check out the Zelda hack if you haven't already www.youtube.com Doom controls quite nicely using this scheme though the thresholds need tweaking for more precise movements. I minimize the fast window half way through this so that it stops impacting the responsiveness of the moevements. Check out FAAST if you want to get hooked up with some gameing action. If it freezes for you, try equipping Kingdom Key. Activate part 1 when walking from Hall of the Cornerstone into the Audience Chamber. Then activate part 2 when you're in the Audience Chamber. You cannot lock onto Mickey (which is the only thing preventing us from having a real Mickey enemy...), so I recommend having the Combo Master ability equipped. This code should technically be usable on the PS2, but the target mod needs to be pressed at all times (and is cancelled when you press other buttons), so practically it wouldn't work.
