On the top of that my regular job also requested more time, so I haven't had the chance to upload something new. In exchange, I am uploading something old This is from 2002 (if I am not mislead by the files dates) when I joined efforts with Frenchman Lionel Gibaudan, working together on a set of transcriptions of Chris' basslines, to which I added an mp3 audio file with bass only. This happened after an invitation from Chris' former site webmaster. Eventually I was told that Chris himself suggested him to include the mp3 files along with the transcriptions online. I was really overwhelmed with that gesture of kindness from Chris. I am sure he must be an incredible person, beyond the little I know, and before the musician he is. So, I am making a video out of the transcription really... no special effects this time :) But I will put the transcription soon available for you at www.miguelbass.com. The bass used was my Fiesta Red Fender Jazz - originally Chris didn't use the Rickenbacker, he played the song on his white MPC Electra which had the Flanger effect incorporated on the bass itself. I used my old Boss ME-8B multi-effect pedal-board. IIRC, the bass was plugged into the ME-6B, onto the Sansamp. The strings were Rotosounds and they were new - that was good cause the tone has got plenty of harmonics and it makes the <b>...</b>

I wanted that old school vibe on this one, so I pulled from 4 different records this time. The intro/main loop, the horn chops, the snare/hats, and that loop that I layered on top of the main loop are all from different sources. I had to do a big combination of timestretching and pitching to get these samples to work together nicely. I put a low pass and high pass filter on the main sample loop, giving me that phat mpc bassline that I love. This was one of my hardest beats to piece together to date. Switched up my drum style on this one, kind of created a newer hip hop pattern on this one. I sampled an intro I found while listening to records one night. The sample is nice and I heavily flipped the samples bassline around so it plays differently then the orig sample did. That was hard because I sampled a bassline part that was not with the guitar sample, but in another part of the song. I just layered the guitar chops on top of the bassline stabs to create the flip. This one dedicated to my smokers. Im sittin back digging for samples and I hear this vocal sample that said "high" in the chorus, so I definitely knew I had to sample it and flip it into a hip hop joint. I put a lp filter on the bassline, (using low end theory) and a hp filter on the vocal, guitar and keyboard chops. I arranged differently then normal, and this beat has a 90's type of arrangement with the high pass chops playing in and out, never too repetitive at all. I've been trying to think outside the box lately on my productions. Please let me know what you think about my flip. Peace everybody.

Keepin it simple..... 1 2 bar drum loop, 1 2 bar sample of some (guess who?). oh and a little bassline i made is the 3rd loop at the end. this is my 40h home made monome running the MLRV app (free program thanks to Brian Crabtree and Enjoi at monome.org) running through ableton (for effects and EQ) although I didnt use any in this clip. the 1st 4 buttons in the bottom row stop the 1st through 4th tracks from playing, 5th and 6th buttons record patterns, not sure what the 7th button does, and the 8th (bottom right) button toggles the delay effect use in the beginning love my monome everyone should get one

To all my subscribers, I know I didn't put shit up since a whole lotta time and I want to apologize for that, but I been like hella busy these days. Anyway back to the subject, I just love all those raw-ass displaced dilla beats with those big sub aquatic basslines (that are actually done samplin stuff and crankin the MPC filter), so I quickly did one myself (sorry I ain't Dilla or Hi-Tek but it does the job !) and just gave it a go for a coupla minutes ! Hope y'all can enjoy it. Playing totally from the feelin without thinkin to be robotic is really somethin else, I like to think of it of just aiming for some beats and impacts rather than a constant flow.
