Love Your Ride
The Public Transport Council, in partnership with the Land Transport Authority, SMRT and SBS Transit and the Singapore Kindness Movement, strives to promote gracious behaviour on our buses and trains, in line with our aim to be a more gracious society. The slogan for this year's programme is "Love Your Ride" or "有爱心，多开心". To inject a fun and humourous element to the programme, popular and recognisable local icons, Dim Sum Dollies were roped in as the programme ambassadors. Through this music video, the Dollies sing, dance and rap to urge commuters to queue and allow commuters to alight first, move in to the center of the train cars or the rear of buses, and give up your seat to those in need. Remember, a little kindness goes a long way. If someone gives up his seat for you, be gracious enough to accept, and just say thank you. The Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is a rapid transit system that forms the backbone of the railway system in Singapore, spanning the entire city-state. The initial section of the MRT, between Yio Chu Kang Station and Toa Payoh Station, opened in 1987 establishing itself as the second-oldest metro system in Southeast Asia, after Manila's LRT System. The network has since grown rapidly as a result of Singapore's aim of developing a comprehensive rail network as the main backbone of the public transport system in Singapore with an average daily ridership of 1.952 million in 2009, just over 63% of the bus network's 3.085 million in the same period. - The MRT has 79 stations with 129.7 kilometres of lines and operates on standard gauge. The rail lines have been constructed by the Land Transport Authority, a statutory board of the Government of Singapore, which allocates operating concessions to the profit-based corporations SMRT Corporation and SBS Transit. These operators also run bus and taxi services, thus ensuring that there is a full integration of public transport services. The MRT is complemented by the regional Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems that link MRT stations with HDB public housing estates. Services operate from about 5:30 am and usually end before 1 am daily with frequencies of approximately three to eight minutes, and services extended during festive periods.

MRT realignment: Spad reply 'incongruous, unbelievable'
DAP's national publicity secretary Tony Pua has trashed the public land transport commission (Spad) for what he describes as its "incongruous, unbelievable and contradictory" reply to claims it is hypocritical and practises double standards. In a statement, the Petaling Jaya Utara MP said Spad should stop giving "unacceptable" and "flimsy" excuses for its decisions that trample on the "ordinary" and "honest man" trying to make a living while according "special privileges... only to the privileged few". Train services along both directions of the North-South Line were affected from Marina Bay to Braddell stations on Thursday evening. "Train services between Braddell and Marina Bay MRT stations are disrupted," said a SMRT statement. "Passengers should take alternative modes of transport or the bus bridging service available between Bishan and Marina Bay MRT stations." "Power rail problem" caused the breakdown, said an SMRT spokesperson. 'MRT tunnel realigned, bypasses VIP's house'
Pakatan Rakyat MPs have questioned the double standards of the Land Public Transport Commission (or Spad by its Malay acronym) in realigning the MRT tunnel near Damansara in order to bypass property belonging to a VIP. when you buy a lottery, you hope to strike first prize. when you take an MRT, you don't want to get stuck.... north-south mrt, stopped at city-hall station, and lost power. mrt worker tried to open the car-door, without success. he opened the end-door to let the passengers out.... why design such a door system whereby during an emergency, the car-doors cannot be opened??? and where's the stand-by power(uninterrupted power supply - ups)??? how come within one week, 3 breakdown incidences???
