Larry Munson's Famous Calls - Lindsay Scott

The biggest play in the Georgia-Florida rivalry. With a minute left in the game, Georgia QB Buck Belue threw a pass to Lindsay Scott on Georgia's 25 yard line. Scott then ran all the way to end zone with the crowd (and Larry Munson) cheering him on. Georgia won the game and the national title that year.

Thurman Munson: O Captain! My Captain!

Thurman Lee Munson (June 7, 1947 -- August 2, 1979) was an American catcher in Major League Baseball who played with the New York Yankees from 1969 to 1979. Munson was killed at age 32 while trying to land his personal airplane. An outstanding fielder, Munson made only one error while behind the plate in 1971 (he was knocked unconscious by a runner, dislodging the ball). He went on to win three straight Gold Glove Awards starting in 1973. A seven-time All-Star, Munson hit 113 home runs, batted in 701 runners, and had a career batting average of .292 over his 10-year career. He was also the first captain named by the Yankees since Lou Gehrig. Munson helped lead his team to three consecutive World Series (1976--78), where he batted a remarkable .373 overall (.339 in the American League Championship Series). From 1975-77, Munson hit .300 or better with 100 or more RBI each year, becoming the first catcher to accomplish the feat in three consecutive years since Yankee Hall of Famer Bill Dickey did it four straight seasons from 1936-39. Munson was frequently homesick, and took flying lessons so that he could fly home to his family in Canton on off-days. On August 2, 1979, he was practicing takeoffs and landings in his new Cessna Citation I/SP jet at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. On the third touch-and-go, Munson failed to lower the flaps for landing and allowed the aircraft to sink too low before increasing engine power, causing the jet to clip a tree and fall short of ...

Thurman Munson plane crash site revisited

Its been 32 years in next month since Thurman Munson's fatal air crash in Canton Ohio, ironically at the age of 32. Hard to believe that he has been dead almost as long as he has been alive. I visited the site just outside Akron-Canton regional airport in July 2011 during a trip to Ohio. Long story short.. Thurman was starting catcher and captain of the NY Yankees. His family lived in Canton Ohio where he was born and raised and he took up flying with the intent of making a daily commute from NY to Ohio after games. For that he to practice and accumulate flight hours. He was practicing takeoffs and landings during an off day. After two successful t"touch and gos" on a nearby runway, he was instructed to switch runways and land on runway 19. That's when the trouble started. He had difficulty making the turn, and was also flying too fast and too low on the approach and also forgot to lower the landing gear, all factors that contributed to the crash which was ruled as caused by pilot error., He survived the impact, but with a broken neck causing immediate and permanent paralysis which prevented him from being able to escape the plane and would have rendered him a quadraplegic had he been rescued by his fellow passengers. However the flames and smoke prevented them from getting to him and the cause if death was listed as smoke inhalation but he was also badly burned in the crash though it will never be known if he was alive or dead when that happened or if the paralysis ...

Derek Munson :: "Platt Opus" (Vic Firth Play-Along)

Website: www.derekmunson.com Twitter www.twitter.com Facebook: www.facebook.com Welcome to my first new video in over 6 months! I've taken the last handful of months to try and step up my game a little bit - investing in studio equipment, new gear, video cameras, and so on - so that I can bring you even higher quality videos, as well as launch my online downloadable lessons on my website. That said, please forgive the main front camera angle and it's blurriness - I have a replacement camera on the way that is the same model as the side camera, which shoots better quality video. Alright, onto the video info! This song is called "Platt Opus" (you'll hear why if you listen to the very few lyrics it has). It's one of Rod Morgenstein's contributions to Vic Firth's Educational Play-Along Tracks Series, which is available for FREE on the Vic Firth website. Vic Firth has tons of great educational materials available to drummers/percussionists from nearly any field of study, and I suggest you go check out all the great stuff they have to offer. To go download a PDF and MP3 of this song (both with and without drums), go to this page: www.vicfirth.com Also worth noting: * The best sound is available when played back at 720p HD definition. * I'm aware of the discrepancies in the foot cam; for some reason, Sony Vegas was hating on the foot cam footage and I had a hard time getting things to line up. This will be better on future videos. Hope you enjoy this! Lots more to come! :D ...

Derek Munson :: "My Funky Valentine" - The FW3 (Live)

Website: www.derekmunson.com Twitter www.twitter.com ============================== Here's a little over-the-shoulder video from a recent live album recording for my band, The Frazer Wambeke Trio. (Website at www.thefw3.com) We're in about the middle of the song, coming out of the bass solo and into an (unexpected) drum solo. The energy's right, everybody's groovin', and then I proceed to drop the ball at the end of the solo. Was it a graceful recovery? Probably. My best moment behind a kit? Definitely not. However, this is a fun take on the old jazz standard, brought up to date, and we always close the show with it, so I figured I'd throw it up here and see if you guys can dig it. :D
