Although he isn't flawless, he's still pretty darn impressive :) Leehom started recieving violin lessons when he was 6 and he started recieving piano lessons when he was 8. He didn't like piano so he stopped. When he was 18, he picked up an interest for piano once again. About the performance: the canon is played using not only the instruments but also the bowing techniques from the time of Pachelbel. As you can see from the video, especially if you look at the high definition version, the string instruments are not only baroque, but they are in baroque setup: this means that the strings, fingerboard, bridge and other parts of the violin appear just as they did in Pachelbel's time. No metal hardware such as chinrests, clamps or fine tuners are used on the violins, allowing the violins to vibrate freely. A good example of baroque bowing can be seen in the extended passage of repeated notes: the musicians play these notes on one bow—the shorter & lighter baroque bow—to created a gliding effect. The players also hold the bow very differently which affects the balance and touch. Ok, so the whole thing is kind of hard to explain, but just the other day I received some real blue man paddles from some BMFH guys, Marco and Hans (thanks again you guys!). They recently were holding a charity auction with items that were donated to them by BMG Oberhausen and were nice enough to hold a pair of paddles aside as a sort of silent auction just for me :-) So here's my first video of me messing around on my pvc instrument with these real Blue Man Group paddles. I had no idea at all about what I was going to play, so there are a couple of times where I pause for a second to think of what song I wanted to play next. My last couple of videos I built a couple of robot bands (yeah! machines that play actual instruments). These videos didn't fair as well so i decided to go back to the basics and create a video staring my trustly old HP Scanner and a scrappy old hard drive which was converted into a robotic drum machine. For this video i recorded the audio separately so i could mix it down because the HP scanner isn't very loud. No effects such as delay and reverb have been used. i was very pleased how the hard-drive drums turned out and they sound great. i will definitely use it in my next video. i would like to give a shoutout to James Houston who (i think) was the first person to use multiple legacy computer equipment in conjunction to make a song.
