Syrian forces had temporarily taken-over and desecrated the Temple, all the while killing any Israeli who would not worship their false gods. With God's help, a small group of Jewish fighters, led by Judah Maccabee, successfully overtook the massive armies. When the Temple was re-dedicated to the God of Israel, only a tiny drop of holy oil was found, but it miraculously burned for 8 days. And so we celebrate Chanukah for 8 days, and re-dedicate our own 'temple' back to God! My Israeli friends flew in to tour California. One leg of the tour is from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. We had a blast and an excellent ride and they continued on to Death Valley and Lake Tahoe. The language barrier was not a problem even though my Hebrew is not good...and their English was the same...we shared and laughed and rode together...as one group...it was fun!
