*if you cant see the subtitles, click the Closed Caption button on the lower-right hand side of the video screen. =] this speech was about japanese onomatopoeia and phenomimes. phenomimes, which dont exist in english, is the sound for something...which makes no sound. for example, japanese can describe the emptiness of a train car, or the sound of someone eating, by the use of phenomimes. this was my first time translating, so the translation may be a bit off. also, since phenomimes dont exist in english, somethings literally can't be translated. so thats why every so often you'll see an "*"...thats when a phenomime was used. by the way, i won first prize. ^_^ スピーチは擬音語と擬態語についてです。 優勝しました！

Iwate Swan 6: My Japanese House
So here is the much anticipated tour of my Japanese house. It sure provides me much more space than when I was living in an apartment near Tokyo! The rent is made cheaper by the board of education I work for, so that is why it hardly costs anything to really live here. Anyways, I give the run down of all the different rooms and features of my house, as well as talk about how my job is doing and how I am doing in my personal life. Viewers who were intrigued by certain inside jokes from previous episodes will now understand who the jokes were directed to. Thank you for watching and I hope you guys enjoy this tour of my house! A Tour of my Japanese Apartment, Part 1
I recently moved to Japan's Iwate Prefecture to teach English. This is a tour of the apartment my company found for me to live in. This video was taken on August 24, 2008, about two weeks after I first arrived in Japan, and about one week after I actually moved in to the apartment. I have Internet access now and my complaining these days has more to do with the many stupid aspects of my teaching job, so the complaining I do about not having Internet access is a little outdated. Still, I like to think of this footage as an endearing and still relevant artifact from a simpler time.
