As Above So Below documentary featuring Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland

As Above So Below featuring Anthony Murphy from www.mythicalireland.com This beautiful film was made in 2006 by Dutch documentary maker Roel Oostra. It looks at ancient astronomy and cosmology in megalithic Europe and further afield. It uses a stunning mix of imagery and music to combine to make an absolutely wonderful production. I have been involved in the making of a number of films and documentaries, but this one has always been my favourite. Notice that I've put on a few pounds since then also!! http www.newgrangeireland.com http

Mythical Ireland movie title made with Sony Vegas

I've started mucking around with Sony Vegas for editing my videos. I've made this opening title. Richard and I spent a couple of hours at Dowth and decided to wait for the Moon. Our patience was rewarded as it made a brief appearance from through the clouds. I filmed the sequence for about ten minutes and then speeded it up in Vegas. I added the text effects also in Vegas using keyframes and the music is from Claire Fitch's Ambiencellist album. After about three hours' work - hey presto! - five seconds of video.

Total lunar eclipse no-show at the Baltray standing stones

www.mythicalireland.com A total lunar eclipse rising out of the Irish Sea in the same position as Winter Solstice sunrise proved a tempting target for photographers and astronomers on June 15th 2011. However, typical Irish cloudy weather spoiled the show and the event was obscured. This did not deter those present from getting some nice photographs though.

The Cygnus Enigma - Was Newgrange inspired by the stars? Part 1

The Cygnus Enigma examines the link between the archaeological treasurehouse that is Newgrange, the myths which relate to that eminent place, and other interesting factors which together form a fascinating ancient mystery. It is revealed for the first time how the various elements of the Cygnus story formed an astronomical masterplan in ancient times, and how, quite possibly, the Stone Age people were able to see the precession of the equinoxes. In our investigation, we examined the relationship between the astronomical constructs of Newgrange and Fourknocks, the Whooper Swan which winters at Newgrange, the constellation Cygnus and the numerous myths and stories about Newgrange which relate to swans. The Cygnus Enigma is fully documented in our book, Island of the Setting Sun - In Search of Ireland's Ancient Astronomers www.mythicalireland.com http www.lastlightfilm.com http

Rare Footage - CIE 001 locomotive with cement train crossing Boyne Viaduct Drogheda

www.mythicalireland.com I am unsure of the year, but this is probably 1994 and this is my one and only video of a 001 (A class) locomotive. These wonderful engines had nearly all been scrapped by the time I got my first video camera. This footage was taken on a borrowed camcorder from North Strand, Drogheda. The tape has begun to deteriorate a little so now's a good time to digitise this footage and get it onto YouTube. This is rare footage. There are only two other videos on YouTube I can find that have the 001 A Class in them.

And listen to that high-pitched whine from the engines. See also how the thrust reversers were deployed before the wheels actually touched tarmac!!

High Man documentary - Slane and Ardee

www.mythicalireland.com http The High Man documentary is a half-hour film which was filmed over three days using borrowed equipment with no budget as a pilot for a possible bigger project. Music was composed by David Swan Montgomery, who was inspired by the story of the High Man, a giant warrior figure made up of roads in Ireland which has significant esoteric links with the ancient myths, monuments and placenames of the area in which it is located. The High Man was discovered by Richard Moore and Anthony Murphy and is documented in their popular book, 'Island of the Setting Sun - In Search of Ireland's Ancient Astronomers'. The film provides the briefest overview of the High Man and the underlying myths and monuments. It is our hope to make a much bigger film, perhaps for television or for DVD distribution, and we are currently seeking funds to make this happen.
