Check out the rock where the surfers paddle out from. There were 4 worse surges before I went home and got the camera. The whole reef was exposed, and entirely covered completely within a matter of minutes.

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here in the "Napili Bay Resort". What a beautiful bay with it's own resident turtle, snorkelling, body surfing and even a restaurant at the end of the beach. What a place to go to relax. Napili Bay is truly paradise!

This video took a strange turn in editing. I shot Napili Bay as part of my mission to shoot footage of every beach on Maui (about 60 beaches total). After looking at the footage, I was stumped as to how to make a unique video with what I had. First, I found the music (Agua De Bebe) which helped me establish a strange, quirky style to the video. Then I began ripping the shots apart to see what made them unique. I started experimenting with drastic color correction to expose things in the footage that I couldn't normally see, and this is the end result. I know it's a strange departure from my other beach videos, but all I can say is that I let the editing take me where it wants to take me. The footage was shot 24p with my Canon XH A1, a frame rate I'm starting to like more and more, especially when incorporated with the film jitters and such.

"Napili Chimes" (Taro Patch) is one of my top three favorite pieces to listen to, and so I finally got around to learning it. Ozzie Kotani wrote this piece for George and Nancy Kahumoku, and recorded it on his "Paka Ua" CD. Ozzie got me a head start on learning it, then I listened to his recording to finish it off (though I'm missing the classical guitar accompaniment). Hope you like it.
