Neşet Ertaş (born 1937) is a Turkish folk music singer, lyrics writer and a virtuoso of the traditional Turkish instrument bağlama. His profession in Turkish is known as halk şairi, which literally means "folk poet". He was born in 1937, in Kırtıllar, a village in Kırşehir to his father Muharrem Ertaş, also a halk şairi, and his mother Döne Koç. Neşet Ertaş went to primary school for only 2 years, Before this he used to play the violin then the saz (the Turkish national instrument, baglama). Neşet Ertaş interprets musical pieces of the Abdal tradition, following his father. Neşet Ertaş,yaşayan en önemli Türk ozanlarından biridir. (d. 1938) Kırşehir'in Çiçekdağ'ı ilçesine bağlı Kırtıllar köyünde doğmuştur.Yağmurlubüyükoba, Kırşehir köyündendir Babası saz ustası Muharrem Ertaş annesi Döne hanımdır. Ertaş, ilkokul gittiği yıllarda önce keman, sonra da bağlama çalmayı öğrendi. Babası Muharrem Ertaş ile birlikte yörenin düğünlerinde sazı ile çalıp sesi ile türküler söylemeye başladı. Ertaş, etkilendiği tek kişinin babası Muharrem Ertaş olduğunu söyler. Kendi ifadesi ile bunu şu şekilde ifade eder; "Babamla ben aynı ruhun insanlarıyız.". Neşet Ertaş, 1950'li yılların sonunda İstanbul'a gelerek ilk plağını "Neden garip garip ötersin bülbül" adı ile babası Muharrem Ertaş'a ait bir türküyle çıkardı. Halk tarafından çok beğenilen bu plağı ardından diğer plak, kaset ve halk konserleri takip eder. Daha sonra Neşet Ertaş Ankara'ya yerleşir. Burada yaşadığı sağlık sorunları nedeniyle kardeşinin daveti üzerine Almanya'ya gider. Çocuklarının eğitimi ve sanatsal çalışmalarından dolayı uzun bir süre Almanya'da kalan sanatçı, 2000 yılında İstanbul'da verdiği konserle sahne hayatına geri döndü.
