WASP NEST MUSEUM

This video shows my extensive collection of MONSTER nests which are built by various species of hornets, yellowjackets, and paper wasps. I am an expert on social wasps as a hobby. I have an intense passion for the genera Dolichovespula (generally aerial-nesting yellowjackets), Vespula (generally subterranean-nesting yellowjackets), Vespa (true hornets), and Polistes (common paper wasps). I love collecting their abandoned nests and adding them to my collection. I think they are masterpieces of nature! Some of the showpieces in my extensive nest collection include a huge bald-faced "hornet" (D. maculata) nest which measures over 3 feet tall, an enormous red wasp (P. annularis) nest which is the size of a dinner plate (1 foot in diameter), a large Mexican honey wasp (Brachygastra mellifica) nest and 2 giant overwintered southern yellowjacket (V. squamosa) nests. I wouldn't have these 2 perennial yellowjacket nests in the first place if it wasn't for the kindness of Bob Jacobson (The scientist who described V. flavopilosa). Of course, I have many other exceptional nests in my collection. I often refer to my apartment as a "wasp nest museum" because I have so many nests! LOL!!! There are over 100 photos which show most of my nests in this link here (Please check them out and let me know what you think.): www.flickr.com Also, I have my own website which educates people on the beneficial aspects of yellowjackets, hornets, and paper wasps. The website needs to be updated although ...

Gulf Turtle Nests Abound, But Worries Remain

July 6, 2011 — Sea turtle nesting season is underway on Gulf of Mexico beaches, and observers say activity seems normal. But these aren't the same animals that nested during last year's Gulf oil spill, and scientists are concerned about a continued rise in turtle deaths.

House Of Bird's Nest

Bird's nest is indigenous to Indonesia, especially in Sumatra. We have been blessed with this natural resources and our family have been consuming bird's nest regularly for decades and have benefited from this highly nutritious delicacy. Until the turn of the century, we have cultivated bird's nest only for our own consumption. However in 1999, we decided to build a larger house for the swiftlets that are found naturally in abundance in our city of Palembang. Blessed by the strategic location and the presence of natural food sources, we were able to provide the ideal living conditions for the swiftlets to nest in. Over time, thousands of swiftlets nestled in our swiftlet house and the population increased exponentially. From the water supply to the proper lighting conditions to the maintenance of the house, we take pride in providing the best for our "feathery friends". It is because of the clean swiftlet house and our dedication to providing a conducive environment for the swiftlets; we are constantly rewarded with high quality nests with very little impurities. Every nest is carefully harvested by our skilled keeper and the feathers delicately removed to maintain the natural shape and fibre strands of the nests. The cleaned nests are then sorted out base on its shape and purity. Finally, we pack them in our own facility to ensure a high standard of quality and purity of bird's nest suitable for human consumption. We, at House of Bird's Nest, are dedicated to maintain ...

How to make a lovebird's nest

Minou working on her nest... What a dedicated birdie!! She has 7 eggs... How she makes her nest: - she shreds paper strands from newspapers, paper, magazines around the house -she stuffs them in her fur -she flies them back into her nest -for every strand of paper, she chews on it to make it soft and crumply (as you see in the video) to provide a soft carpeting for her babies -she does this all day long everyday (April 5 2007)

Opening 1000 Bird's nests (Tree seeds only)

Friday 19 October 2007 : As I said in my previous video when I opened 500 bird's nests, I waited before opening my nests until I collect 1000 of them (tree seeds). Today, I finally achieved that :) Here are some impressive pictures of other previous rewards from KM (I used to wait longtime before collecting the resources) : img262.imageshack.us img215.imageshack.us img215.imageshack.us img53.imageshack.us img523.imageshack.us img412.imageshack.us For any question about the Kingdom Management, please read this : www.runescape.com Also please don't post comments or questions about the prices and the money I've made from those seeds. I sold most of the high-lvl seeds before the release of GE, and I don't remember how much I've made from it nor the prices at this time. (I actually wasn't really caring about money). To the people who think it's a fake or from a private server : look at the date. Since that time, Runescape's display and graphics have been updated.. UPDATE 2nd August 2010 : Rings rewards (from 839 nests) : 308 Gold rings = 36% 331 Sapphire rings = 39% 117 Emerald rings = 14% 77 Ruby rings = 9% 6 Diamond rings = 1% Music is Midnight from Cornandbeans → cornandbeans.newgrounds.com Cheers =) Edit: April 2011 - 100k views, lolwhat

Penguin steal stones from neighbor's nest!

www.StreamDirectTV.up.to - CRAZY! A "criminal" stone-stealing Adelie penguin has been captured on camera by a BBC film crew. The team, filming for the documentary Frozen Planet, spent four months with the penguin colony on Ross Island, Antarctica. The footage they captured shows a male penguin stealing stones from its neighbour's nest. Watch crazy animal videos on 4500 HDTV channels online at http The birds build their stone nests to elevate and protect their eggs from run-off when the Antarctic ice melts. Males with the best nests are more likely to attract a mate, so, in a colony of half a million penguins, the best stones are highly prized. Jeff Wilson, director of the shoot, explained that he and the cameraman, Mark Smith, knew that the birds occasionally stole stones from one another. But he said it was a challenge to capture the moment in the chaos of a busy penguin colony. "The're only a foot and a half tall, so you have to get down to penguin level," he told BBC Nature. "So poor old Mark, was crawling around and there were adelies constantly looking right down the barrel of his lens. "It's appealing at first, but when it happens for the hundredth time as you're trying to get the shots you need, you start to lose patience." He added that the colony was "the most aurally exhausting place". "You're bombarded with sound," he recalled. "There are 250000 males building nests and on top of all the breeding penguins, you have groups of adolescent non-breeding penguins ...

Glenn Marshall - The Nest That Sailed The Sky, Computer-generated Visualisation 2009

Developed with Processing. Music by Peter Gabriel Glenn Marshall is the graphic artist responsible for Peter Gabriels music video The Nest that Sailed the Sky. The animation transports viewers into magnificent fantasy worlds in which plantlike organisms sprout, send out shoots and proliferate. The video was created with Processing, an open-source programming language & environment. Glenn Marshall: I developed 6 animation sequences using this imagery, all showing different stages of birth, life, transcendence, decay etc. 1. single cells growing on ends of stems, with dark underwater shading , I also added concentric ripples which emanated from the growing vines. 2. empty nests with trails of red berries being left behind where ever the stems grow from, against subdued morning sky shading. 3. the boy in the nest appears, against sunset shaded background. 4. boy in nest against brighter blue sky shading. 5. star child luminous effect on dark background. 6. single cells again, without stems, dark watery shading. I rendered out each sequence for the entirety of the songs duration. The shapes of the vines and positions of the sprites are exact for each sequence, this allowed me to dissolve each sequence at any point from one into another and maintain a natural looking transition. In post production, through simple dissolves, I could experiment with and craft together a visual narrative that changed with musical cues in the song. Barred Owl - Visits Nest Box

On several occasions we have seen them visit the owlbox. This seems strange to us because the owlbox has only one function. That is nesting, and nesting happens in mid-January. So we try to understand this behavior. I think it is better to look to other birds for an explanation. Hawks Do it! The red shoulder hawks that share our yard with the owls have a related behavior. Most of their nests have been blown away by the hurricanes of recent years, but prior to that we had three or four nest sites within 150 feet of our house. The hawks would visit the sites on a daily basis. They would land on nest tree #1, make the loudest set of calls possible for about five minutes. They would then adjourn to the next nest site and repeat the process, until they had visited all the potential nests. Then they would fly off and get back to their business. I think what we are seeing with the owl is the equivalent behavior. But with all owl behavior it is always the 'owl way'. We think it is the female, she lands on the perch. Last night she visited at 7pm and 5:30ish. Both times she used a low distinctive hooting sound. I got it on video tape and will try and get it out on the web this week. She hoots from the perch, then hops inside. Hoots some more, then returns to the perch. Couple more hoots, then she flies of into the night.

Zebra Finches Like To Build Nests

In this video my two Zebra Finches are building a nest inside their basket/nestbox . Its good to use as is, but they like to improve it with dry grass. It can be any grass from the outside. You can just pull it out of the ground and throw it into the cage. There is already one egg laid inside the nest. You can see my parakeet sits on the side of the cage on the left side. For some reason he really likes these birds and wants to spend time with them. I dont let him go inside though.

2011 *First Look* at Decorah Eagle Nest Cam 3rd Baby Eagle Hatching

eaglenestcam.co.cc *WOW* I couldn't believe I was getting the final egg hatching. The Eagle got in the way of the camera though after a minute or so and then sat down on them again. Get the DVD that this nest is featured on here. amzn.to What's this about a PBS documentary on this nest? The Decorah eagle nest was featured in a PBS Nature series program, "American Eagle," that premiered in November 2008. Filmed by cinematographers Robert Anderson and Neil Rettig in high-definition, the video is available on DVD and online. How high is the nest? About 80 feet. How big is the nest? 5-6 feet across, about the same deep; it weighs about 1½ tons. How old is the nest? The eagles built it in 2007. A previous nest close by fell when a windstorm broke one of the branches. Are these eagles banded? No. Which is the male and which is the female? It is hard to tell the difference unless they are both on the nest. The female is larger than the male. This female has a ridge above her eyes that goes further back than on the male, and her eyes are surrounded by a greyish shadow; the male has a line around his eyes that makes them look "beadier." Some think that the male's head is "sleeker" than the female's. What is the history of this pair? They have been together since the winter of 2007-2008. Her markings at that time indicated that she was about 4 years old. They successfully hatched and fledged 2 eaglets in 2008, then 3 in 2009, and 3 more in 2010. Inside The Wasp's Nest Vol. 1 - Aerial Yellowjacket - RE-UPLOADED IN HIGH QUALITY

I am re-uploading this video so that the "Watch in High Quality" option will be available. This is a movie I made using footage of a tree nest a friend found across the street from his house in 2003, and the nest built under our deck out back in 2004. The aerial yellowjacket, species Dolichovespula arenaria, looks very similar to the pesky ground-nesting yellowjackets in the genus Vespula, and builds aboveground nests very similar to those of the larger baldfaced hornet, Dolichovespula maculata. The video ends with the complete footage from the short disturbed-nest clip I used to have up, "Yellowjacket Attack". It shows the entire duration of the swarm and the yellowjackets beginning to calm down. Here is an excellent close-up video of another disturbed nest of this species taken by someone much braver than I (they stayed behind the camera during the assault): www.youtube.com

Species story that takes place at Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Reserve in Montana where the spring awakening of a great marshland is seen as the migrating species return to establish their territories, build their nests and raise their families.
