Real Life Angry Birds Action at MeeGo Conference 2011

www.netbooknews.com The MeeGo Conference 2011 went on over the weekend and the highlight (besides the Qt & MeeGo SDK Introduction) was the Angry Birds Live Action Competition. Attendees of the open source conference got together in teams building either a launcher to get the those pesky pigs or a fortified structure protecting them. We got to sit down with Julian Forugead Product Manger at Rovio about the competition and about the Angry Birds phenomenon. The competition was a team building excessive that was all about creating community, for MeeGo to succeed its going to need to its developer community rally together. If you want to learn more about the MeeGo conference or are looking for more information about the event.

Notion Ink Adam Hands on at CES 2011

www.netbooknews.com While stopping by the Pixel Qi booth at CES 2011 we were pleasantly surprised to run into the Notion Ink team. We scored some a walk through by Rohan Shravan and a bit of hands on time our self. The Notion Ink Adam as been one of the most anticipated tablets of CES since we saw it behind glass at last years CES. Its sporting a dual core with a NVIDIA Tegra 250 chip, 1GB of ram, the low power consumption Pixel Qi screen, a 3.2 MP auto focus swivel camera, mini HDMI and even a mini USB port! What keeps the tablet looking special is Notion Ink's custom software. Eden, the multitasking UI, splits the screen into three panes, and intelligently uses the dual-core NVIDIA processor to balance power and battery life. For instance, the CPU shows up as a single core in the Android "About" page; Eden won't activate the second core if there's still capacity in the first core.

Best Netbook of 2010: ASUS 1015PEM Review

www.amazon.com www.netbooknews.com The ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM rises to the top as one of the best Netbooks on the market. Its got a sleek and slim profile that is inline with the Seashell lineup of Eee PCs. The attention to detail in design makes it rise to the top like cream, this is the netbook that Peter here at Netbook News is planning on buying and I am picking up the ASUS 1015PN which has a few tweaks including USB 3.0 & Nvidia Ion. Basic Specs The ASUS 1015 PEM is a 10.1-inch netbook with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 sporting an Intel Atom 1.5GHz N550 with a 250GB HDD (5400rpm) and 1GB of RAM which is upgradable to 2GB. Design The chassis finish of the netbook is soft to the touch and feels like its very good quality and at all like cheap plastic. Since its matte it is not the traditional finger print magnette we've seen on glossy models, you still get a few smudges but nothing significant. If black isn't your style you can also pick it up in blue, red, and white. Keyboard and TouchPad The keyboard was extremely functional, the shift key's could have bit a touch bigger for my liking. The overall performance of they keyboard layout met my expectations for a device that I aim to use for productivity. It didn't bend or flex even when I got particularly excited while writing a blog post The touchpad is huge measuring 3.0 x 1.6-inches and it has the same matte finish as the rest of the palm rest. Rather then being textured to separate it from the rest of the unit its <b>...</b>

Opera CTO on Support of WebM & HTML5 & What it Means

www.netbooknews.com Hakon Wium Lie CTO of Opera was at Google I last month and talked about what WebM & HTML5 were going to mean for the internet. Google has announced a new multimedia codec called WebM which the search giant is pitching to become the standard for web video. The WebM codec combines the VP8 video codec with the Ogg Vorbis audio codec and the Matroska container format. The idea is to deliver high quality video that can adapt to varying bandwidths. Also, since it make efficient use of bandwidth, it will save content publishers cash. But it's a new standard so we it has yet to prove itself as a legitimate competitor spec wise. Yesterday Opera released its browser update implementing support for WebM, VP8 & HMTL5. According to their press release here are the advantages. What is new? Performance: Do not let your browser slow you down. The world's fastest browser again storms ahead of its predecessor, boasting a 50% faster online experience as compared to the previous version. Geolocation: Let your browser find it for you. Geolocation detects your location and maps you in the middle of the action, for example giving you the most accurate search results in your area. Video: Opera now comes with high-quality, open video format WebM, built right into the browser, making viewing videos online even easier. HTML5 Appcache and Web Workers: Appcache lets you use different applications, such as word processor, image editor, spreadsheets and much more, in your web <b>...</b>

Google I/O 2010 Highlight Reel - Netbook Nation Vodcast #17

www.netbooknews.com Google I 2010 took place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco May 19-20. The conference had some interesting revelations, the most significant for netbooks and the Web was Google Annoucing Support for Web M, whose most outstanding feature is the video codec VP8. Micheal Maimoff of Google's Chrome Developer Relations Team talks about the Web M announcement as well as Hakon Wium Lie, Father of CSS & CTO of Opera. Adobe was running a demo of VP8 on YouTube, the picture quality is outstanding, so be sure to take a close look. As this is a highlights Reel of Google I/O you'll get to see some Android 2.2 or FroYo running on a Nexus One. Also at the show was a Prototype Nvidia Tablet, the tablet was mysteriously absent on the 2nd day of Google I/O rumors were that Google asked them to take it off the show floor as they wanted to focus to remain on phones. . .too much press! We can back that up with our video and story getting featured on the Guardian and 70 other websites. To give you a run down of the tablet specs this 8.9 inch tablet was running Android 2.1 with its 1Ghz Tegra 2 processor. It was also sporting a webcam & microphone and for connectivity on the left hand side of the device we have audio jacks, docking port connector and a microsd card slot.
