LONG BEACH, CA Fontana, CA-based Falken Tire, well regarded for its high performance tires, officially entered the 2009 American Le Mans Series highly competitive GT2 class by competing at Long Beach with its in-house-prepared Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. The car was driven by veterans Dominic Cicero and Bryan Sellers and ran on specially prepared Falken AZENIS RT slicks. Qualified in eighth position by Sellers, the Team Falken Tire RSR ran within a second of the race podium-winning #92 BMW car, a considerable accomplishment for a brand new team and tire that has never previously experienced the unforgiving Long Beach street course. The Porsche moved to seventh on the grid after the pole-winning car was sent to the rear for a ride height infraction. Sellers started the race, but reported shifting problems early on. He continued to nurse the car for 30 laps, maintaining his position of seventh, but eventually had to retire the Porsche. The team finished 20th overall and 12th in class. The car was extremely consistent for a long time, Sellers said. I was able to run a steady pace for the whole stint never dropping off more than four-tenths of a lap until we had transmission problems. Ever wonder how you can relearn the Tire Pressure Monitors without the activation tool? Well, here it is. Since TPMS has been made mandatory for all cars since the 2008 model year, I believe GM wanted to design the system so anyone can do it as standardizing TPMS already further drives up the cost of new cars; as do so many of the other BS requirements. This procedure which you see in this video is probably true for all GM's starting in the 2008 model year. Following a leak earlier this week, Chevrolet has released official information about 2012 Corvette. Set to be unveiled this weekend, the updated model is outfitted with new seats, a revised steering wheel and a padded center console. Furthermore, new options include a Bose audio system, a technology package (with GPS navigation) and colored brake calipers (in red, yellow, silver or gray). The mid-level Z06 can be ordered with Performance Traction Management, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, a carbon fiber hood and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires which are "essentially street-legal versions of a racing tire." Likewise, the ZR1 gains a new PDE performance package with a full-width rear spoiler and new aluminum wheels equipped the aforementioned tires. More notably, the car also has a revised transmission - with taller gearing - which enables it to achieve an additional 2 mpg highway. No word on pricing, but production is slated to begin in July. The Pontiac GTO: The Pontiac GTO was built by Pontiac Division of General Motors in the United States from 1964 to 1974, and by GM subsidiary Holden in Australia from 2004 to 2006 as the Holden Monaro. It is considered to be one of the most innovative classic muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s. The GTO came at a time when General Motors had banned the divisions from involvement in auto racing. At the time, Pontiac's marketing was heavily based on performance. This change in GM's policy forced Pontiac to turn its attention to street performance. The GTO was born from a redesign of the Tempest which was to be called the "Super Tempest" with the larger 6.4 L Pontiac V8 engine from the full-sized Pontiac Catalina and Bonneville in place of the standard 5.3 L Tempest V8. The big-engine Tempest was badged the GTO for "Gran Turismo Omologato" after the Ferrari 250 GTO. The GTO escaped the violation of GM policy by becoming an option package for the Pontiac Tempest LeMans. The GTO package had sold 10000 units before the beginning of 1964 followed by total sales of 32450 GTOs. 75342 were sold by 1965.
