Angry Birds theme park hits Finland

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Angry Birds Land recently opened inside Sarkanniemi Amusement Park in Tampere, Finland. The first official theme park based on the Angry Birds game, Angry Birds Land is the latest example of how popular the addictive smartphone app has become. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com Angry Birds, created by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Mobile, invaded smartphones, then pop culture worldwide. Now it is moving in on the theme park business. An unlicensed Angry Birds park opened late September of last year in China, but Finland is the first country to host an Angry Birds park where the game's creators collaborate with park designers. "We wanted to create a unique themed area and associate it with a strong and well-known brand," Sarkanniemi Adventure Park CEO Miikka Seppala was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail. The popular game is even being developed into a major motion picture. Just because it's from Finland doesn't mean it will not be coming to a city near you! Angry Birds recently announced plans to expand to the UK, as part of its push to expand beyond games and become a major brand.

Romney apologizes for high school bully pranks

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Mitt Romney is being attacked by liberals after the Washington Post ran an article about how he bullied a gay classmate who didn't fit in at his high school. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com Five of Romney's classmates from the exclusive Cranbrook prep school, including classmates who participated in the bullying, say Romney led other boys as they held down the classmate — who had returned from spring break with bleached blond hair — while Romney gave him a haircut. Romney taunted another closeted gay student by yelling "Atta girl!" in English class, the story says. Romney apologized after the article was published for pranks he led that "might have gone too far," though he says does not remember that particular incident. "Back in high school, I did some dumb things, and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize for that," Romney told Fox News. "I participated in a lot of hijinks and pranks during high school, and some might have gone too far, and for that I apologize." The timing of the Romney bullying story raises questions, as it comes just after Obama endorsed gay marriage and North Carolina passed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and civil unions. Implicit in the story is the idea that Romney bullied the student because he was gay. Anti-gay bullying campaigns are prominent among gay rights groups in the US. Romney ...

If she makes the cut, she will be the oldest NFL cheerleader, but not the first grandmother to become an NFL cheerleader. Susie Sanchez, a 37-year-old cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders, made the cut in 2011, becoming the first NFL cheerleader with a grandchild. Laura Vikmanis of the Cincinnati Bengals is currently the oldest NFL cheerleader at age 42. Simmons is not only the oldest person at the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders audition, she also possesses an impressive resume. Simmons is a commercial realtor, fitness competitor, author and actress. Steve Jobs Dead: RIP 1955-2011; his life and career

www.nma.tv Next Media Animation takes a look back and the life and career of Apple co-founder and chief executive Steve Jobs, who resigned that position late on Wednesday. Our tale begins with Steve Jobs dabbling in LSD and spiritual enlightenment, which Jobs describes as the "one of the two or three most important things [he had] done in [his] life". Man, look at all the colors. Hey, that gives me an idea for a company logo. Jobs would then found Apple with Steve Wozniak and a third guy who cashed out his shares waaaaaay too early, so we didn't bother to animate him. In 1984, Jobs unveiled the Macintosh and forever revolutionized personal computing. But the good times wouldn't last. John Sculley, the executive Jobs hired away from Pepsi, bounced Jobs from the company he founded. Jobs would get his revenge by starting another company, Pixar. He produced 'Toy Story' and sold the animation company to Disney for a fat profit. Jobs finally returned to Apple and defeated arch nemesis Bill Gates to become the baddest mofo in tech. Jobs was then diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and required a live-saving liver transplant. Apple now faces a threat from Google Android. Thankfully, Jobs can pass the baton to chief operating officer Tim Cook.

Behind the Berkeley Bake Sale: Proposition 209 and SB 185

nma.tv Affirmative action has always been a touchy subject in California, a state with many high achieving white and Asian students. In 1996, California residents passed Proposition 209, which prohibited public schools from considering race in the admissions process. After Proposition 209, the number of Asians in the elite UC college system surged. But now, a California legislator has put forward Bill SB 185, which would allow public universities to consider race. The Berkeley College Republicans fear the effects this bill might have on the UC system. They hosted a "diversity" bake sale to protest the possible effects of the law. Will the bill go through? Socialist Hollande wins French election

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Francois Hollande was elected president of France in the 2012 French presidential election Sunday, becoming France's first Socialist president in 17 years. NHL playoff violence: fights, hits mar hockey playoffs

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Violence is up in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs — and so are ratings. NHL head of player safety Brendan Shanahan has doled out nine suspensions this postseason, already twice as many compared with the entire 2011 postseason. The NHL has become more aware of the long-term effects of head injuries sustained by hockey players. But after taking a tough stand against nasty fights and dirty hits at the beginning of the 2011-2012 season, Shanahan has been inconsistent in disciplining players. Some say it's because NHL owners don't want him to. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com In the most egregious incident in this year's NHL playoffs, Phoenix Coyotes winger Raffi Torres has been suspended indefinitely for a brutal head shot on Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa. Torres faces a disciplinary hearing with the player safety committee today in New York, and the Blackhawks want Shanahan to throw the book at him. It's a chance for Shanahan to reign in the violence. Will he send a strong signal, or will he allow the violence in professional hockey to continue to spin out of control?

Occupy Graduation protests $1 trillion student loan debt

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Occupy Graduation is the latest permutation of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com American students have borrowed $1 trillion in student loans. This year's graduates are competing for jobs with last year's graduates, of whom fewer than half have found full-time employment. But those in the class of 2012 who borrowed huge sums and to pay first-tier prices for a worthless fifth-tier liberal arts degree might be complaining too much. To be sure, a college degree is still the key to greater economic success — if you study the right degree. The economy was bad when the class of 2012 entered college. Not a good time to borrow tens of thousands of dollars unless it's to major in a subject that will get a job when you graduate. Who do you blame for America's $1 trillion student loan debt debacle? The students? The schools? The bankers? We'd like to see your opinion in the comments below.

Stoudemire has apologized to Knicks fans via Twitter, but fans might be thinking his loss is no big deal considering the team's 14-5 record without him in the team. Queen Elizabeth gets royal snub from Queen of Spain over Gibraltar

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of England, may be feeling a little sour towards Spain's Queen Sofia for skipping out on her Diamond Jubilee lunch at Windsor Castle. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com All this tension because of a teeny tiny territory called Gibraltar. Gibraltar is a small rock with an area of just 6.8 square kilometres, or 2.6 square miles located on the southern tip of Spain. Although it is attached to Andalucia, Spain, Britain controls Gibraltar. The Brits captured Gibraltar during the 1704 War of the Spanish Succession, sparking a centuries-old beef between Spain and Britain. This tension is making headlines again when Queen Sofia retracted her decision to attend Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee lunch celebration set to take place today. Many think the move is due to the Gibraltar spat, but there may be other reasons, among them Queen Sofia's rocky relationship with King Juan Carlos. Their decision not to celebrate their Golden Anniversary is the latest indicator that the couple is estranged.

Kranjska or Krainer? Slovenia, Austria go to war over sausage

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com Call it Kranjska vs Krainer. Slovenia has applied to the EU's European Commission for official recognition and protected status for the Kranjska klobasa, or "Krainer Wurst", a sausage it claims for its own. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com Slovenia claims the sausage, of which a cheese-filled version known as a 'kaesekrainer' is extremely popular in Austria, was invented in Northern Slovenia in the 19th century. Complicating the claim is the fact that Slovenia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the time. Should the EU side with Slovenia then Austria would be forced to change the name, much to the chagrin of kaesekrainer lovers in Vienna. The two countries have six months to come to a settlement in their battle over the pork-filled delicacies. Should they fail to do so then the EU Commission will be forced to make a ruling.

North Carolina gay marriage ban puts pressure on Obama

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com The 2012 election is approaching and gay rights is the third rail for President Obama and the Democratic Party. Obama needs money from gay donors but can't afford to alienate Democrats opposed to gay marriage. Opinion polls show Americans are becoming more favorable to gay marriage, but less so in the key swings states of Florida, Virginia and Ohio, which have constitutional bans on gay marriage, and North Carolina, which banned gay marriage on Tuesday. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com North Carolina became the 30th state to ban gay marriage on Tuesday, when voters approved Amendment One, which prohibits not only gay marriage but also voids all other forms of domestic unions from carrying legal status. Meanwhile California is moving in the opposite direction, as a bill makes its way through the state legislature that would ban psychotherapy aimed at making gay people straight. And Obama's vice president, Joe Biden, said over the weekend that he is "absolutely comfortable" with equal rights for same-sex couples and heterosexual couples.

Penn Jillette's podcast pot rant: Obama's drug policy is whack

SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com (change this to NMAtv if for NMAtv channel) Penn Jillette's Sunday School Podcast has gotten a lot of attention after Penn went off on an Obama rant. At the center of the rant was the marijuana laws of California. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com Magician Penn Jillette, of Penn & Teller, is angry at President Obama. He let the world know it during his podcast this past weekend. The rant was sparked after he and co-host, Michael Goudeau, pointed out the hypocrisy of a marijuana mention in Obama's 1995 memoir, "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance". In the memoir, Obama writes of his marijuana usage and adds "maybe a little blow," which set Penn off. "If Obama had been caught with the marijuana that he says he uses, and 'maybe a little blow'... if he had been busted under his laws, he would have done hard f*cking time," the magician says. Although Penn himself has never tried marijuana or had a drink in his life, he stands up for pot smokers everywhere by calling out the government's marijuana policy on absolutely hypocritical and ludicrous.
