Here is a snippet I made many years ago with scenes from what you would have seen on the Weather Channel in 1990. This was the last year of " You Need Us for Everything You Do", it can be heard throughout the video.

Hurricane Andrew makes landfall in south Florida on 8/24/1992 at 5 AM EDT. This is probably one of the best reports from the Weather Channel ever during a hurricane. It is calm, informative and almost chilling. There is no HYPE or sensationalism with this as there is with any storm that TWC deals with today. This is how is used to be and how the media should be today.

An updated version of the Friendship Cove theme used in 2004 where the lyrics are changed from "( it's something new ) to ( it's fun to do) a what touch you", since Friendship cove had been around for 6 yearslet

A montage of the Tropical Update screen from The Weather Channel. The first still is from an unknown year in the mid 80's, followed by 1988 and each consecutive year. 2001 and 2002 were similar and I did not include 2002, as well as 2007 is the same screen at 2006. When possible I tried to get John Hope in the shot as he was the one and only hurricane expert. Music: Andy Narell - Sugar Street

Tropical Update from 10/11/1990 with John Hope discussing Tropical Storm Marco in the Gulf of Mexico and Hurricane Lili, south of Bermuda and the remnants of Klaus. Marco redefined what a "landfall" was, as it used to be the direct center of the storm had to pass over land, Marco changed that to include any part of the center of circulation that crosses land. Even though there was not an eye with Marco, its right calm center did track over land. Lili, was forecast to come very close to North Carolina and possible strike New England. Many people were still hurrican weary after Hugo one year before. Fortunately, Lili was picked up by an approaching trough and kicked out to sea. You can also see the remnants of Klaus moving into South Carolina and dropping a tremendous amount of rain.

WPIX 11 News coverage of the Perfect Storm of 1991. Some of the stories were portrayed in the book and movie.

From the first edition of News 22 Daybreak that aired on November 30, 1987 with Joan Murray, Derry Bird and Chuck Galeti. This date coincided with CBS debuting their new morning show "CBS This Morning"

From January, 1990. My "Guest Weather Slide" was presented during this newscast. I watched WYOU for many years as they were the best newscast in the area, as well as I felt Paul Heppner, shown here, was one of the best TV meteorologists I have ever come across. He inspired me to get into the field of meteorology with his very informative shows. He always explained why the weather was happening and not just telling you what was happening.
