Another Inline 4 CoKi engine

Stress test of the racing drivetrain


Stressing the drivetrain to its limits, holding the tire results in the rim spining inside it (the squeaking sound) and then the drivetrain broke off the axle connector inside the rim.

I abandoned the double cam setup in favor of a pushrod setup. It has much promise. I have to further tweak the opening times, to hopefully get some consistent 1800 rpm numbers out of it. A perfect V8 can be bought in my webshop: www.lpepower.com

Single Cylinder 1060 LPE


This is my single cylinder Lego engine that does 1060rpms @ 60psi(4.1 bars) and minimum speed is 280rpms @ 10psi(.7 bar). Testing a prototype engine. I so hate silicone lego tubings constantly popping out :( Pressure was less than 3 bars and i couldn't rev it out to the max because of the tubings. 1800 rpms isn't that bad though. Still runs a bit too rough, but the sound is there :)

While i was on Kockefest, i took the oportunity to use the smooth linoleum floor for some drifting. Unfortunately, the lego power funstions failed again. I hate IR.

Lego V8 dragster "burnout"


Here's a video of the dragster doing a burnout. No tire smoke is coming out, unfortunately, but the engine spins the wheels on the spot.

Lego 1500 rpm V8


Buy a V8 on www.LPEpower.com The engine actually runs at 1540 for a second or two. I still have lots of work to do untill this runs as desired (1600-2000 rpms), but it has come a long way. At the end you can hear the compressor kicking in.

I fixed at least the leaks in the air hoses. Gained 200 rpms. Now on to the switches.

So... when testing the latest 2 engines just before sending them to customers, i find it again frustrating to discover how much the performance spread varies. 1600 rpms vs. 1400 rpms... The engines were built side by side, all cylinders and switches modified as good as i possibly can make them, components picked up randomly before put into the engines, yet we still see a 200 rpms difference. :(

This time a small inline engine using the small lego cilynders. It's doing only 2400 rpms, but since it's only 2 cilynders the vibrations are extreme :( I know that those small cilynder engines are capable of much more, but with only 2 cilynders i won't achieve much more (probably). The speed computer is geared down 3:1 for better accuracy.

Lego V8 - more refined


This time not more rpms, just a more refined machine, poducing its power more smoothly. The crank is stabbilised with 2 paralel shafts, which prevent it from twisting = more power. Switches use scotch yoke principle of operation.

So, this one is even faster. But still not good enough. Back to the drawing board...

Camles inline4 doing 1620rpms


Engine is built to be the main propulsion unit of a racecar that will be utilised by a Puerto rican university team, in a race!!! Details about that another time. Anyway, engine runs perfect, revs up to 1620rpms and is extremly smooth and responsive. I dare say the most efficient engine that LPEpower has made to date.

In the video it isn't really apparent how fast this 1997 audi a4 was actually going. The squeeking sound comes from crappy s+m tires. THe conversation is mostly about the passanger side CV joint begging for mercy.

Many bugs were discovered during this outing, while you watch this video i have fixed them all. None of the faults seen in this video will happen again. The crash happened, because the steering ball joint got dislocated after the car drove over the garden hose, which sent it into the wall. Explaining the switch situation and first run of the i3


Here i am explaining the switch changes in the LPEpower engines and we're right away seing the first run of the i3 with the switches from the pictures. It ran a fine 2100 rpms. The cloud of mist coming out of the engine at the beginning is the silicone spray lubricant that was sprayed into the intake before running it on air for the first time.

Second run after enlarging all inlets and all T pieces. Still not running 1500 rpms as it should. The 2 things i can think of are the worn cylinder rods (customer supplied cylinders) and my compressor putting out "just" 7.5 bars, instead of 8. Other than that, the engine is perfect.

Test for a costumer, engine runs 1860 rpms. I'd prefer it to be higher, but i don't want to spend more time to get 200 rpms more. Engine runs great. Just couldn't show you properly because i was holding phone with one hand and air pistol with the other hand. And the pistol was popping out at full pressure.

It would do 1860, but i don't have enough hands to hold the engine and air pistol together and at the same time operate the camera.

Tried in car. Wheels are not so responsive because the motor is not mounted stiff enough.

Just a quick test, to see how smooth the new V6 mechanicals work. The pistons have been removed, so i can fix some leakages. I think the mechanical side works pretty smooth.
