#OccupyWallStreet: Man assaulted, hidden from Press, denied lawyer. 10.14.11

Occupy Wall St March of 14.10.11. At apx 6:30 am, it was announced in the General Assembly (GA) that Brookfield Properties was not going to force an eviction under the guise of "park-cleaning". Around 7:30 or so, the pent-up energy of the hundreds of protestors packed cheek to jowl exploded into two unscheduled and, as usual, unpermitted marches: one going north on Broadway, the other going south. This is footage from the south-bound march. In front of 33 Beaver St, the protestors, fed up from harassment eariler in the day, and being chased and herded by a phalanx of cop-cycles, decided to turn in protest and stand their ground. There were a good many hot-heads on both sides. As you can see, a few protestors pushed the cycles, resulting in escalation which suddenly resulted in a rush-attack by the police. Key points to notice here: 1) The protestor who you can see getting arrested is mostly passive. 2) The aggressiveness of the protestors in no way justifies the brutality seen here and in later clashes. 3) The Press is denied access to view and record the beating, arrest, and handling of this protestor. indeed, they are chased off with night-sticks. 4) The (green-hat) member of the lawyers guild was denied access to protect her client. Michael Moore at #OWS Shows Brilliant Understanding of English

On the 19th of November, the Vision and Goals working group at Occupy Wall Street was surprised and delighted to see Michael Moore walk in and ask if he could join. He brought no cameras, and showed great restraint, speaking only twice in the three+ hours that I attended the meeting. Both of Moore's comments were surprisingly brilliant and helpful. We were drafting a public statement, and he provided us with his expertise in the English language as understood by the 99%.

#OWS Spokes Council on N17, the Day of Action

November 15th, the NYPD raided Zuccotti/Liberty Plaza without warning. All of the tents and many people's personal property were destroyed. 5000 donated books were compacted, and medical records are being held at the Sanitation Department. The Occupiers of OWS are currently without a home. The Spokes Council convened on the 16th of November, to discuss how our Occupation was to proceed, and the plan for the two month lunaversary of the Occupation. November 17th, two months after this historic occupation began, we will be having an International Day of Action. We will Shut Down Wall Street, both in celebration of our movements longevity, and in protest of our forceful eviction. The following video is of our plans for the day. Join us in this direct attack against these abusive and oppressive institutions. Join us in solidarity with those of us who witnessed firsthand the destruction of our encampment.

#OccupyWallStreet: Learning that we are NOT being evicted!!!! 10.14.11

This morning, hundreds, perhaps a thousand or more people rose well before the sun rose in response to a notification we'd received a few days prior: that the owners of Zuccotti Park: Brookfield Properites, were requesting that the police would clear us out so they could clean the park. We all knew that this was a ruse to get us to leave the park and, in so doing, break up the epicenter of the Occupation. Anyone who has been to the park has seen not only the well kept trashcans, but the improvised recycling bins and compost bins. Additionally, the night before the planned eviction, we held a mass cleaning and scrubbing of the parks. At 6:00 am, we convened after little sleep to block the eviction. This is a video of the speech informing us that Brookfield Properties had decided "late last night" to postpone the cleaning. In essence, we won! better still, Bloomberg (the Mayor of NYC) tried, and FAILED! This speech is a jubilation as well as a recitation of the notice. Apparently Brookfield has recognized us as a legitimate force which would require the largest mass arrest America has seen in years. They have agreed to try to work out a deal with us. However, as you will see later, when you get 1000 people who are ready to stand there ground against a blatant assault such as we were expecting, a lot of energy is pent up in expectation. Shortly after learning that we could all go home, we decided that we would march. Those marches were fueled by a little too much adrenaline ...

#OccupyWallStreet: 10.14.11 - Postponing eviction, police brutality, and dancing in the streets

UPDATE: I have no idea why the video quality has suddenly....evaporated. As of 7.11.11, the video is very shaky and freezes on a single frame, and occasionally degrades completly. None of this was on the original footage, nor was it present in the week after upload. I'll wait a few more days, but if this persists, I'm going to make the video private. Please let me know if you are also experiencing these problems. This is a hacked together collection of clips from throughout the day (up until 11am, at which point I had to go home for lack of sleep) The day began with what looks to be over 1000 people gathered at 6am in Zuccotti Park, NYC to block the planned eviction by Brookfield Properties and the NYPD under the guise of "cleaning the park". Though it seems that this news arrived "late last night", it was not announced to the public at Zuccotti until after 6am, which leads to speculation about the delay. This notice from Brookfield Properties stated that they were postponing the cleaning as they thought that we could "reach an agreement", and, implicitly, because our numbers were too great. The day began with great jubilations, but also an expectation that there would be serious conflict. That energy escaped through two marches, the southbound and northbound, both beginning on Broadway. I took the Southbound. The rest of the footage documents various scenes that I witnessed. Missing from this collection is an apx. 3 minute clip of clearly shot police brutality and the ...
