Harry Nilsson-"Mr. Richland's Favorite Song/One" (1971) (1/7)

The opening to Harry's wonderful TV special, "The Music of Nilsson," he taped for the BBC in 1971. The performances on this TV special showed Harry at his best, performing slower, more moving renditions of his best songs to date, back when his voice was only colored by brandy and cigarettes (and maybe an acid trip or two). The two songs here first made their appearance on Harry's 1968 album (and his 2nd album for RCA), "Aerial Ballet." "Mr. Richland's..." tells the story of a musician who goes from rags to riches and back to rags again as a has-been. "One," of course, was covered by Three Dog Night, who took the song to #1 on the US charts in 1969.

Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him)? - Trailer

A wildly entertaining, star-studded documentary about The Beatles's favorite American musician, WHO IS HARRY NILSSON (AND WHY IS EVERYBODY TALKIN' ABOUT HIM)? is a vibrant and definitive portrait of one of the most talented singer-songwriters in pop music history. Directed by Emmy and Grammy nominee John Scheinfeld (THE US VS. JOHN LENNON), the film combines compelling interviews with Nilsson's family, friends and colleagues — including Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Robin Williams, Micky Dolenz and Yoko Ono — with rare and never-before-seen archival footage, home movies, and excerpts from a recently discovered oral autobiography. The film delves deeply into Nilsson's artistic process, his spirited relationship with John Lennon, and the additions that haunted him in and outside the studio — as well as the peace he found as a devoted husband and father.
Harry Nilsson - Me And My Arrow

Me and my Arrow straighter than narrow where ever we go everyone knows it's me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow taking the high road where ever we go everyone knows it's me and my Arrow And in the morning when I wake up she may be gone I don't know and if we make up just to break up I'll carry on oh yes I will Me and my Arrow straighter than narrow where ever we go everyone knows it's me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow Me and my Arrow straighter than narrow where ever we go everyone knows it's me and my Arrow

Without you by Harry Nilsson No, I can't forget this evening Or your face as you were leaving But I guess that's just the way the story goes You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows Yes, it shows No, I can't forget tomorrow When I think of all my sorrow When I had you there but then I let you go And now it's only fair that I should let you know What you should know I can't live if living is without you I can't live, I can't give any more I can't live if living is without you I can't give, I can't give any more No, I can't forget this evening Though your face said you were leaving But I guess that's just the way the story goes You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows Yes, it shows I can't live if living is without you I can't live, I can't give anymore I can't live if living is without you I can't live, I can't give anymore

Come on, raise your hands If you think you understand Though my memories scream, maybe it was all just a dream... I woke up sad
