Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo wins Nobel Peace Prize 2010

Imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize as the award committee ignored warnings from China's government. The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday praised Liu's ``long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights'' and said China, as a growing economic and political power, needs to take more responsibility to protect the fundamental rights of its citizens. A bitter China has denounced the awarding of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo and says the decision will hurt relations with Norway. 'Liu Xiaobo is a criminal who has been sentenced by Chinese judicial departments for violating Chinese law,' The Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday. Awarding the peace prize to Liu 'runs completely counter to the principle of the prize and is also a blasphemy to the peace prize'.

Exclusive: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkul Karman on the Struggle for Democracy in Yemen

www.DemocracyNow.org - In a Democracy Now! exclusive interview, we speak to Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Yemeni activist, Tawakkul Karman. The UN Security Council is set to vote on a resolution calling on Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to immediately step down after 33 years in power. All five permanent members of the Security Council back the measure, which "strongly condemns" government violence against demonstrators. The popular uprising Yemen continues despite more attacks by government forces, including dozens of demonstrators murdered by snipers in recent days. Karman has been in New York City all week to press for international pressure on the Saleh regime. She is the first Arab woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. A 32-year-old mother of three, an outspoken journalist and Yemeni activist, Karman has agitated for press freedoms and staged weekly sit-ins to demand the release of political prisoners from jail. She founded Women Journalists Without Chains and has played a leading part in the struggle for women's rights and for democracy in Yemen. Most recently, she has led rallies in the continuing protests against the rule of Saleh. "We have the dream, and we have the ability...we will not stop here, we will build our country," Karman said. "We tell Saudi that they should stand with the Yemeni people. And anyone who doesn't stand with our people, they are the losers. We know what it means to be free, and we will achieve it." Of today's vote at the United <b>...</b>

Lyrics It's a good thing tears never show in the pouring rain As if a good thing ever could make up for all the pain There'll be no last chance to promise to never mess it up again Just the sweet pain of watching your back as you walk As I'm watching you walk away And now you're gone, there's like an echo in my head And I remember every word you said It's a cruel thing you'll never know all the ways I tried It's a hard thing, faking a smile when I feel like I'm falling apart inside And now you're gone, there's like an echo in my head And I remember every word you said But you never were, and you never will be mine No, you never were, and you never will be mine For the first time, there is no mercy in your eyes And the cold wind is hitting my face and you're gone And you're walking away (away) And now I'm helpless sometimes Wishing's just no good 'Cause you don't see me like I wish you would 'Cause you never were, and you never will be mine [ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/ib ] No, you never were, and you never will be mine There's a moment to seize everytime that we meet But you always keep passing me by No, you never were, and you never will be mine (I saw you at the station, You had your arm around what's-her-name She had on that scarf I gave you And you got down to tie her laces) 'Cause you never were, and you never will be mine (You looked happy, and that's great) No, you never were, and you never will be mine (I just miss you, that's all) 'Cause you never were <b>...</b>

Liu Xiaobo won Nobel Peace Prize 2010-Ceremony-part1

Jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2010. Liu Xiaobo (pronunciation: [ljǒʊ̯ ɕjɑ̀ʊ̯pɔ́]; born 28 December 1955) is a Chinese literary critic, writer, professor, and human rights activist who called for democratic reforms and the end of communist one-party rule in China.[1] He is currently incarcerated as a political prisoner in the People's Republic of China. He has served as President of the Independent Chinese PEN Center since 2003. On 8 December 2008, Liu was detained in response to his participation with Charter 08. He was formally arrested on 23 June 2009, on suspicion of "inciting subversion of state power."[2][3] He was tried on the same charges on 23 December 2009,[4] and sentenced to eleven years' imprisonment and two years' deprivation of political rights on 25 December 2009.[5] During his 4th prison term, he was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, for "his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China."[6][7][8] He is the first Chinese person to be awarded a Nobel Prize of any kind while residing in China.[9] He is the fourth person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while in prison or detention, after Nazi Germany's Carl von Ossietzky (1935), the Soviet Union's Andrei Sakharov (1975), and Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi (1991). And Liu is the first person since Von Ossietzky to be denied the right to have a representative collect the Nobel prize for him. (source: wikipedia)

AUNG SAN SUU KYI - Only Nobel Peace Prize Winner Imprisoned

US Campaign www.uscampaignforburma.org UK Campaign www.burmacampaign.org.uk Burma Campaign www.burmacampaign.org.uk National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi I am very humbly requesting any fellow youtubers out there if they will take it upon themselves to make their own video to continue to increase awareness, to share it with everyone, because I truly believe there is strength in numbers. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. It can be short and simple. Knowing she's been imprisoned for years, and for no reason It's cruel and pitiful that she stay confined when she knew her husband was very ill. She was not able to be by his side when he died of cancer, but I know in my heart they were both in each other's thoughts and souls during Michael's last days of life. I'm sure they both were in one another's minds and hearts every single day. Write a school paper on her if you are allowed to pick the person. To any teachers out there -- Please have one day of awareness, teaching your students about what democracy is, how precious freedoms are. Introduce your students to Aung San Suu Kyi. She represents freedom, democracy, elegance and grace. This video has been honored in the past. It was humbling.
