This is Honeycomb, or Android 3.0, running on the Nook Color. This video is just a quick walk through of the software. In particular, this is Deeper Blue's Honeycomb Preview v4. (Current as of 2/11/11 @ 5am CST) The UI just looks wicked cool. It's just a preview, so this doesn't represent the final product. Still though, it looks really neat. I'll be making the how-to for this in the coming days. The installation process was pretty seamless for me. As soon as I log in, I have access to the Market for a max of 5-8 minutes before it denies any programs from downloading. Then a few minutes later, I get the "Google Talk Authorization Failure" message. After that, I still have access to the Market, but I cannot download applications. I also noticed that some protected apps show up, and others don't. Other than that, it feels fast and is very responsive. Nook Tablet Review If you've preordered the Amazon Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble hopes you're now having second thoughts. That's the message of the just-announced $249 Nook Tablet, the successor to 2010's Nook Color (which remains on the market for $199). The new 7-inch color tablet equals many of the basic specs of the Kindle Fire, but justifies its $50 price premium over Amazon.com's model by offering several notable upgrades. The Nook Tablet will offer more than twice the storage and twice the RAM of the Fire; it's got an SD expansion slot for even more storage capacity (which the Fire lacks), up to 32GB; and Barnes & Noble is already touting Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Pandora apps which will come included on the device from the start (Amazon's list of third-party Fire apps remains undisclosed). Those features are in addition to the existing assortment of apps and features already available on the Nook Color (and on deck for the Kindle Fire)--e-mail and a Flash-enabled Web browser, in addition to a fully stocked e-book store and magazine and newspaper newsstand. Nook Tablet Unboxing! Hiding in the shadow of Amazon's Kindle Fire release, Barnes & Noble has unleashed its newest member of the Nook family hoping to get in on the tablet party. In comparison, hype for the Fire has been deafening since its announcement, while the Nook Tablet has merely made but a whimper. Still, that's not to say the newest Nook doesn't have a lot to offer. But do consumers care? Initial impressions: the form factor and design is nice. If you've seen the Nook Color first-hand, it's almost identical to that, although it's a lighter silver shade in favor of the Color's dark gray. It's not too heavy, making it easy to hold it one hand, and there are buttons! There is a Nook "n" logo button that acts as a sort of do-it-all; it brings up a menu for Home, Library, Shop, Search, etc. There is also a volume rocker! Hallelujah. After getting root access on the nook touch, what is the first thing I do with it? Why, install Angry Birds of course! Unfortunately, it's not exactly playable. It tends to flash a lot, and anything that's animated looks like crap.
