Israel, US discuss triggers for military strike on Iran

Israel and the US are discussing "red lines" in Iran's nuclear program, that if crossed would justify a preemptive strike on its nuclear facilities. According to the report, Israel's ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, filed an official complaint with the administration following a speech by US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta a few weeks ago, warning against a military strike on Iran. The Daily Beast reported that Panetta's statements infuriated the Israeli government, which ordered ambassador Oren to file the complaint. The White House then relayed a message to Israel saying the administration has its own "red lines" concerning a strike on Iran, and that Israel does not need to act unilaterally.

Nuclear Ambiguity: Israel's "Secret" Arsenal (Eyeopener)

CONTINUE WATCHING: ur1.ca TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: www.corbettreport.com Hand-wringing over Iran's nuclear program has been a mainstay of western political discourse ever since an Iranian dissident revealed the Iranian government's plans for a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz in August 2002. Indeed, fearmongering over the possibility of an independent Iranian nuclear program has become so commonplace that it seldom raises an eyebrow even among the most cynical observers of the bought-and-paid-for corporate media. To defuse the glaring hypocrisy of the world's greatest nuclear superpower chastising a nation halfway around the world for pursuing a nuclear program that is admittedly still incapable of even producing a single nuclear weapon, it is often stressed that the IAEA ruled Iran to be in violation of its obligations under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Apart from the exceedingly unusual manner in which that decision was reached -- in a highly unusual non-consensus ruling with 12 abstentions--what is never mentioned in this context is that there is in fact only one nation in the Middle East that is not a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty itself, and only one country with a nuclear arsenal, an arsenal that has never been inspected by the IAEA or anybody else: Israel.

Forbidden Fruit: 'Threatening Iran spurs nuke weapon bid'

The West continues to increase pressure on Tehran over its suspected nuclear program. But will the latest set of sanctions help it reach its goals? Some experts believe the measures will only fuel nationalistic feelings in Iran and boost the regime. David Lindorff, founder of the news blog "This Can't Be Happening", believes that pressure coming from the US and Israel could merely encourage Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons. Seymour Hersh: Propaganda Used Ahead of Iraq War Now Being Reused Over Iran's Nuke Program

www.democracynow.org - While the United States, Britain and Canada are planning to announce a coordinated set of sanctions against Iran's oil and petrochemical industry today, longtime investigative journalist Seymour Hersh questions the growing consensus on Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program. International pressure has been mounting on Iran since the UN International Atomic Energy Agency revealed in a report the "possible military dimensions" to Iran's nuclear activities, citing "credible" evidence that "indicates that Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device." In his latest article for The New Yorker blog, titled "Iran and the IAEA," Hersh argues the recent report is a "political document," not a scientific study, in an interview with Democracy Now! Nov. 21. "They [JSOC] found nothing. Nothing. No evidence of any weaponization," Hersh says. "In other words, no evidence of a facility to build the bomb. They have facilities to enrich, but not separate facilities to build a bomb. This is simply a fact." 'Iran never gives in to pressure'

Iran's resistance to Western influence is the only reason NATO has not encircled Russia completely, thus enabling the US to defeat its only military rival, consolidating its dominance in the world, says Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi. RT: The West is suspicious of Iran's nuclear program, while you insist that you have peaceful intentions. What is Iran going to do to convince the West that your nuclear program is intended to serve peaceful purposes? Ali Akbar Salehi: The only international body that has the authority to evaluate our activities is the IAEA, and no state is allowed to accuse Iran regarding its nuclear program outside IAEA boundaries, or to initiate any international action against Iran. This is why we pay no attention to the West's claims regarding our nuclear research. Iran is a member of the IAEA and a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Iran is going to respect that treaty, since nuclear non-proliferation is in our interests as well. I confirm that Iran has made its intentions quite clear with regard to its nuclear program, proving that it is peaceful. This is further reaffirmed by the fact that the IAEA did not state in any of its reports that there is any military activity going on in Iran's nuclear sector. As for our intentions, how can the United States accuse us of pursuing non-peaceful purposes while America itself was the first nation ever to use nuclear weapons, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in Japan? Pakistan's Nuclear Test - May 28, 1998 (Youm-e-Takbeer) Ptv Footage

On May 28, 1998, Pakistan became a nuclear power when it successfully carried out five nuclear tests at Chaghi, in the province of Baluchistan. This was in direct response to five nuclear explosions by India, just two weeks earlier. Widely criticized by the international community, Pakistan maintains that its nuclear program is for self-defense, as deterrence against nuclear India. A former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, offered justification for Pakistan's nuclear program when he said that if India were to produce a bomb, Pakistan would do anything it could to get one of its own. It has always been maintained by Pakistan that a nuclear threat posed to its security can neither be met with conventional means of defense, nor by external security guarantees. Israel, the IAEA, and the Road to War With Iran

TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: www.corbettreport.com This month's release of a new International Atomic Energy Agency report into Iran's nuclear energy program has caused a flurry of diplomatic activity, political posturing, and breathless news headlines about the supposed imminent threat of an alleged Iranian nuclear weapons program. Given the nature and tenor of the coverage of the IAEA report in the mainstream press, one might be forgiven for believing that the agency has in fact uncovered new signs that Iran has made any concrete steps toward creating a nuclear weapon since it suspended that program in 2003 or that there is any evidence whatsoever that Iran has made any progress in the development of nuclear weapons technology. In reality, however, the report contains no new information about Iran's alleged attempts to create nuclear weapons, a fact quietly conceded by even the most hawkish opponents of Iran's nuclear program, including former weapons inspector David Albright. Nothing can stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, but the country does not have them yet, and has probably stopped trying to make them. Iran War, Strait of Hormuz, Gold and Silver Smackdown and More: Weekly News Wrap-Up

usawatchdog.com - The Iranians are threatening to shut down the Strait of Hormuz because of increased sanctions from the west on financial and oil interests. Tensions have been escalating over Iran's nuclear program despite that county's continued claim it is for the peaceful production of energy. Iran has been so upset about increased sanctions, it has been conducting drills to shut down the Strait. Yesterday, the Iranian navy reportedly shot surveillance video of an American aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf 15 million barrels of crude oil pass through this narrow shipping route every day. Other North Africa and Middle East hot spots include Syria, Egypt, Libya and Yemen. In other news, the Iowa Republican caucus is voting on a presidential candidate, and it looks like it is coming down to Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. The EU debt crisis continues as nothing has been fixed. Expect a weird combination of bank defaults and money printing in 2012 for that troubled region. "Time to Attack Iran" Declares Council of Foreign Relations - Israel & US

"Time to Attack Iran" Why a Strike Is the Least Bad Option By Matthew Kroenig January/February 2012 Article Summary and Author Biography In early October, US officials accused Iranian operatives of planning to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States on American soil. Iran denied the charges, but the episode has already managed to increase tensions between Washington and Tehran. Although the Obama administration has not publicly threatened to retaliate with military force, the allegations have underscored the real and growing risk that the two sides could go to war sometime soon -- particularly over Iran's advancing nuclear program. For several years now, starting long before this episode, American pundits and policymakers have been debating whether the United States should attack Iran and attempt to eliminate its nuclear facilities. Proponents of a strike have argued that the only thing worse than military action against Iran would be an Iran armed with nuclear weapons. Critics, meanwhile, have warned that such a raid would likely fail and, even if it succeeded, would spark a full-fledged war and a global economic crisis. They have urged the United States to rely on nonmilitary options, such as diplomacy, sanctions, and covert operations, to prevent Iran from acquiring a bomb. Fearing the costs of a bombing campaign, most critics maintain that if these other tactics fail to impede Tehran's progress, the United States should simply learn to live with a ...

Pakistan's Nuclear Security as compare to USA and India (An eye-opener)

A hype has been created over a period of time regarding the safety of Pakistan's nuclear weapons. More especially, countries like Indian and US and their media have been quite vocal in the recent past voicing concerns about Pakistan's nuclear program. In some bizarre incidents, ironically, the nuclear safeguards of both these nations themselves have been in regular breach of standards desirable, not long ago.A sensitive list of US nuclear sites was mistakenly posted on internet recently. Then, in another case that shocked the whole world, a B-52 bomber that was mistakenly armed with six nuclear warheads flew for more than three hours across several US states. As far as accidents regarding the Indian nukes are concerned, a few days back a fire left two people dead at India's main nuclear research laboratory, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai. Times of India reported on November 30, 2009 about radiation contamination at the Kaiga nuclear plant in Karnataka. The locals residing in surrounding area suffered damages. Yet another case, was of the sudden missing of a top nuclear scientist L. Mahalingam, having access to sensitive information, is also a fairly recent happening. He was later found dead. Then, there was news about two to three tons of heavy water having leaked out of an atomic reactor in western India on August 5, 1981. An examination of the safety record in India's nuclear facilities reveals poor practices and routine accidents, ranging from leaks ...
