Transcending the Nature/Nurture Debate
Mr. Stolyarov challenges both sides of the conventional, age-old "nature" versus "nurture" debate. Both genetic determinism and environmental determinism are highly simplistic and false. Moreover, determinism regarding human beings is false altogether. Mr. Stolyarov argues that the nature/nurture debate should be transcended via an understanding that free will and choice place an individual in control of his destiny. While Mr. Stolyarov does not present any simple, generalized answers, he does urge for a recognition that human beings and their paths in life are much richer and more sophisticated than deterministic theories suggest.

Live performance by Sarah Jaffe, a singer/songwriter from Denton, TX, at Club Dada in Deep Ellum, TX - April 16, 2011. She sings "Nurture It", off her 2010 LP, Suburban Nature (Kirtland Records). This is a solo performance outdoors on a very pleasant spring evening and the crowd was in a great mood. Sarah's drummer and guitarist took a short break and this is one of about four songs she did by herself that night. Her long time violinist, Becki Howard, didn't play that night but she did join Sarah on stage to harmonize with Sarah on "Hang With Me", just before this song. Some still photography shots were taken from the video footage, but the shots near the end were contributed by Chuck Cox (thank you Chuck!).

We received 3rd place at the regional contest, which is district-wide. This meant we could move on to compete in the state-wide contest... where we got 2nd place! So... we qualified for the NATIONAL contest! Tomorrow I'm going to DC to compete in NATIONALS!! Unfortunately Julia couldn't come to Nationals but I'll still be able to present our documentary there.
