Norwegian Wood played on nyckelharpa, Irish bouzouki, guitar and tambura. Updated "editor´s note": Looking back after a while, personally I find it a bit ambivalent watching this video. On one hand Alex and I feel very humble in the face of those very kind comments we received. Thank you all! Feel free to carry on exaggerating like this! ;-) On the other hand I can´t ignore the evidence that this was the very first video we made trying to illustrate our recordings and that I didn´t have any knowledge in video editing. Although the cloning of ourselves worked rather well I made a few mistakes that spoil my excitement... ;-) It started with the fact that I overrated the camera and tried to record the video without additional light. To make the resulting snow storm less obvious I applied some smoothing effects to the images that make the floor look like it was covered with ants. Besides I tried to correct the lighting choosing a completely wrong method which makes me look as if I was wearing a black helmet. That and my strange idea to make faces during the close-ups make watching the video a bit hard for me... ;-) But considering the very positive reaction we received makes it much easier to ignore those facts and simply try to make things better next time. :-) And finally... the main purpose is sharing the music anyway... ;-)

In June of 2011, Aryeh and I did an "unplugged" tour of Southern California. This concert took place at Conscious Colors energy center in Los Osos, California. Aryeh is playing his Swedish Nyckelharpa and I am playing my Celtic Harp. Since Los Osos is right near San Luis Obispo where my harp was made at "Triplett Harps," Debbie Triplett was in attendance which made it extra special. In our show we do a lot of storytelling, and a lot of laughter, but this is a serious clip of a tune called "Nightingale" that I wrote some years ago. It's been one of Aryeh's favorites. This was the beginning of the evening and as it got darker, so did the video, so this song is clear.. I will look for more to post. Hope you enjoy.

This is some video shot at a concert at Sylvia Wood's Harp Center back in 2006. Beth Kolle, a well recognized Nordic/Celtic harper, and I are performing a Swedish Long Dance. I am playing a Swedish Nyckelharpa or keyed fiddle which I just got about a month before the gig. Shortly thereafter, Beth organized a wonderful tour of harpers to travel in Norway and Sweden for a couple of weeks (HARPA). The tune is called Longdans från Sollerø.

There seems to be something wrong with the audio quality of the 360p version, it´s somehow lacking treble. So you´d better switch to the higher resolution... Just a slide show this time... After uploading Norwegian Wood and Something In The Night I wanted to try out other ways of editing the video images. The still shots used in this video were originally meant to try out batch editing of images using Corel Paint Shop Pro. It did work well and I could use the same technique for the following videos but unfortunately what remains are a few still shots that perfectly reveal my usual enthusiasm towards being photographed. ;-) It seems much easier just to put up a camera and play the damn song. ;-) If you want to see video images of the nyckelharpa please watch our videos "Something In The Night" or "Norwegian Wood".

Nyckelharpa means keyed harp and is a bowed instrument unique to Sweden and is its unofficia national instrument. It often accompanies the Swedish and medieval bag pipes found in Sweden. The video recordings of the nyckelharpa were taken right after the ones of Norwegian Wood and shortly before I found out that the light was too low for my camera. In this case the bad video quality was no problem because the song title suggested adjusting the images like they were shot by some night vision gear. I told friends we did this on purpose but I can´t stand denying the truth any longer... ;-) Our version of the song was published by the blog "Cover Me": www.covermesongs.com With performances of songs like this we should be the perfect background music for funerals, divorces or zeppelin crashes.
